5, Building a better economic system: the Better Business Act

In episode 5, Innocent Drinks CEO Douglas Lamont and Amy Clarke, Chief Impact Officer at Tribe Impact Capital, discuss how business can be part of fundamental economic, social and environmental change by signing up to the UK’s Better Business Act. The BBA coalition currently consists of more than 600 businesses and calls for a change in the law that would require companies to advance the interests of wider society and the environment alongside those of shareholders. This would revolutionise the nature of conversations in the boardroom, allowing for a more holistic approach to the challenges faced by company directors. Chairing the discussion are Oxford Saïd’s Dr Mary Johnstone-Louis, Senior Research Fellow and teaching lead on the Oxford Leading Sustainable Corporations programme, and Charmian Love, Social Entrepreneur in Residence at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship.
