5 HARD TRUTHS EVERY SEPARATED PARENTS MUST HEAR

from Family Court Mastery with Jason Appleyard (England&Wales) · host the_Applewotzit

5 HARD TRUTHS EVERY SEPARATED PARENT MUST HEAR Separation changes everything — but the responsibility to protect your children from adult conflict remains. In this video, we look at 5 uncomfortable truths separated parents may need to hear, particularly when emotions are high, communication has broken down, or the Family Court has become involved. We explore why: Your child should never become your messenger, witness, therapist or investigator. Being a parent does not give you unlimited access to the other parent. Your pain may explain your behaviour — but it does not excuse harmful behaviour. Being “right” about the other parent does not automatically make your own behaviour child-focused. Sometimes the biggest change is accepting what you cannot control and taking responsibility for what you can. This isn't about deciding which parent is the “good parent” or the “bad parent”. It's about asking a much harder question: What is my child experiencing because of the way I am responding to this separation? Whether you're dealing with a difficult separation, allegations of domestic abuse, high-conflict communication, child arrangements or Family Court proceedings, understanding your own behaviour can be one of the most important parts of moving forward. Explanation can help us understand behaviour. It does not excuse the harm caused by that behaviour. This video forms part of the wider work of The Reset Project Domestic Abuse Intervention Programme, focused on accountability, insight, safer behaviour and child-centred parenting. ⚠️ Important: This content is educational and is not legal advice, therapy, a risk assessment or a substitute for specialist domestic abuse or safeguarding support.
