5-Minute Summary: Tibial Plafond Fractures and the Impact of Social Media Support Groups on Patient Perceptions

from JOEI The Journal · host Ira H. Kirschenbaum, MD

Tibial plafond fractures are severe injuries that often result in a prolonged treatment and recovery process, as well as poor outcomes and high complication rates. Given this, an online support group exists for patients to gain support and advice from a community of patients with the same injury. Similar groups exist for other chronic medical conditions and traumatic injuries; such groups have been studied to determine the impact on the affected patients. There have been no prior studies specifically investigating the effect of these support groups on patients with tibial plafond fractures.
