This session addresses the provision and access to postnatal care, long described as the Cinderella of maternity care. Do we place enough focus, time, and energy on this time of transition to early parenthood, of coping with a new baby and a changed role? Is there sufficient continuity and postnatal service? Where is the leadership of PN care and where is it going? In this episode, Professor Mary Steen, Professor of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health at Northumbria University will take us on a journey to glimpse into the past, present, and future She will be joined by Elizabeth Duff, Senior Policy Advisor at the NCT, who asks why postnatal has been neglected for so long and explores ‘Blood, sweat, and tears: mothers’ body fluids & patriarchal distaste for postnatal care’.
