5 Reasons “Nice” People Can Secretly Drain Your Energy

from Flight to Fulfilment with Ratika Seth · host Ratika Seth

Send us Fan MailHave you ever spent time with someone who was perfectly nice to you, yet walked away from the conversation feeling completely exhausted? They weren’t rude. They didn’t criticise you. There was no argument or obvious negativity. In fact, if someone asked you what went wrong, you probably wouldn’t know what to say.But something about the interaction felt heavy.Maybe you spent most of the conversation reassuring them. Maybe they constantly put themselves down, leaving you to build them back up. Maybe they agreed with everything you said but never told you what they actually wanted. Or perhaps they were so afraid of disappointing anyone that you somehow ended up managing their feelings for them. And this is where we need to understand something important: being nice and being emotionally healthy are not necessarily the same thing.Hello beautiful soul,Welcome back to another honest and deeply reflective episode of the Flight to Fulfillment Podcast, where we explore emotional awareness, self-worth, relationships, and the hidden patterns that quietly influence how we connect with the people around us.I’m your host, Ratika Seth, Life Enhancement Coach and founder of the Freedom Divas Hub, a community where women reconnect with themselves, rebuild self-trust, and create lives rooted in freedom, self-respect, and conscious choice.Today’s conversation may challenge something many of us have believed for years: that if someone is nice, they must automatically be easy to have a healthy relationship with. But relationships are far more nuanced than that.A person can have a genuinely good heart and still struggle with boundaries. They can care deeply about you and still need constant reassurance. They can be extremely generous but secretly find it difficult to say no. They can avoid every argument and still leave you feeling emotionally unsettled because nothing difficult ever gets spoken about honestly.Sometimes what looks like niceness is actually people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, over-giving, excessive apologising, or a fear of expressing what someone really needs. And importantly, none of this automatically means that the person is manipulative or intentionally draining you.Often, they may not even realise they’re doing it.But good intentions don’t always prevent unhealthy relationship dynamics. When someone constantly needs reassurance, you can become responsible for making them feel secure. When they never say no, you may eventually be expected to recognise when their yes actually means no. When they avoid difficult conversations, you may become the person who has to sense what’s wrong and bring it up.And that is where a seemingly “nice” relationship can become surprisingly exhausting.Because healthy relationships need more than kindness. They need honesty, boundaries, emotional responsibility, and enough safety for two people to occasionally disappoint each other without the relationship falling apart. So in today’s episode, we’re exploring 5 reasons “nice” people can secretly drain your emotional energy, why good intentions don’t always create healthy dynamics, and how to recognise the difference between genuine kindness and niceness that quietly asks you to carry too much.More Power To All!Follow me onInstagram Facebook YoutubeLinkedInFor any information, write to me on [email protected] know more, visit my website www.ratikaseth.comMuch Gratitude!Ratika Seth
