5 Rules for Surviving Area 51. It Was Never About the Aliens

from DarkHorrorNarrations · host DarkHorrorNarrations

Before I start my night shift at Area 51, they handed me five rules. No explanation. No context. Just five things I was told to follow without question. Rule One said don't look at unauthorized light sources. Rule Two said respond to any voice I didn't recognize with my employee number, not my name. Rule Three said stay away from the Level Three rest facility between two forty-seven and four fifteen in the morning, and that this wasn't a security restriction. It was a survival instruction. Rule Four said that during a Protocol Nine event, I had no memory of what I observed. Rule Five said if a colleague appeared to be looking through me rather than at me, I should sign out and go directly to Medical. I followed every rule. I followed them exactly. What I didn't understand, not until the end, was that the rules weren't written to protect me. They were written to protect the conditions that something else required. Everyone who has ever theorized about what goes on inside that facility got one thing fundamentally wrong. We were never the ones doing the studying.
