5 Ways I Learned How to Stop Procrastinating

from Sustainable Foundations | Faith-Based Business Growth and Sustainable Scaling without Burnout

Today I want to share a little insight into a struggle that I face in my own business and how I overcome it in case you struggle with this too. I have been a procrastinator my entire life. For as long as I can remember I have been the night owl pulling all-nighters to finish big projects last minute rather than taking that project and breaking it into smaller bites and tackling the project in stages. I know... I preach on Time Management and how to not eat the entire elephant in one bite but I am horrible at following my own advice. I know the powerful struggle that comes with procrastination, I've lived it... I'm still living it. This is why I know I can help, it comes from having to figure out my own procrastination tendencies but also how to move past them. Procrastination is a significant barrier to effective time management because it involves delaying tasks or activities, often in favor of less important or more enjoyable activities. Procrastination can lead to increased stress, is the main cause of missed deadlines, and significantly reduces productivity. But if we look into WHY we are procrastinating it can shed some major light into our business and how we work! I have learned that I have 5 main reasons why I find myself procrastinating. Each reason has a different way to overcome it and to push past the desire to focus on more desirable things. If you have never thought to look into why you are procrastinating hopefully my sharing my reasons can shed light on your own tendencies. The first one I picked up on was the obvious... being distracted from the task at hand by various shiny objects! I'm Distracted I am not in the Mood I am Struggling with How to Get Started My Brain Just won't Focus I'm just not Feeling it So while procrastination gets a bad rap why not flip the switch and use it as a tool to better understand what is going on? Once you have a better understanding of why you are procrastinating you will be able to identify the reasons, apply your new solutions, and get back on track quicker allowing you to be more purposeful with your time. Hopefully, these tips can help you next time you find yourself procrastinating on a task. Loved this episode?
