5-Year-Old Racecar Driver

from News For Kids · host ICRT

There is a five-year-old kid in Egypt who drives a race car! That's amazing. Many kids can ride a bicycle… but drive a race car? How is that possible? Well, in Egypt there are lots of deserts. Deserts are big, open, and sandy … so you won't really crash into anything. The desert race cars have special wheels and they look like the cars you see on the beaches in Taiwan. The young race car driver doesn't race by himself. His dad sits in the seat next to him. They wear helmets when they race in the desert. Sounds like fun, yeah? Racing in the desert is not easy. There are no trees to crash into… but your car can sink into the sand and get stuck! You have to learn how to not get stuck! The five-year-old boy has his dad next to him to help him. And his daddy is also a race car driver! No wonder the boy loves racing! If you remember to be safe and find an adult to help you, kids can try lots of interesting adventures… like riding a horse, or rock climbing… or maybe, even desert race car driving! What sports adventure would you like to try? ________________________________ Vocabulary 在沙漠開快車一定很好玩。 1. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
