#50 - Dr. Rogena Sterling / The history of the sex gap in biology classes

Today’s episode is the second instalment in our series with Intersex Aotearoa. Toshi was lucky enough to speak with Dr. Rogena Sterling, who is deputy chair at Intersex Aotearoa, and a lecturer and researcher at the University of Waikato. Rogena has a passion for human rights, a key focus of their PhD, and was the first openly intersex person in New Zealand to receive a PhD. Last year, Rogena published a chapter titled ‘Janet and John’: Intersex Invisibility in the New Zealand Curriculum, which looks at the way intersex has been excluded from the Western education system and explores ways that intersex can be better represented and included in the curriculum.
