Send us Fan MailThis 50th episode of How I Got Hired is a very special one.  Have you ever felt that you have faced too much adversity? Here’s a story that will open your mind.  On March 25th 2002, Sana Khurshid was travelling with her sister on a highway in Islamabad, when they suddenly met with a deadly road accident. Her sister died on the spot while Sana's body was 95% paralysed. In the hospital, Sana was unable to talk or move any of her body parts. Her only way of communication was blinking her eyes. To get the attention of sleeping nurses, she would often bite on her ventilator tube to stop the oxygen supply and set off the alarm. After years of medical treatment, she was able to talk but physically became wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life. The iron-girl however, didn't lose heart. Sana went on to complete her studies in London, and successfully completed her LLB and then LLM. She is now a practicing lawyer in Lahore and actively works for the differently abled and is committed to make public places accessible for them everywhere. Talk about turning adversity into advocacy. Literally.I am in awe of Sana and what she has achieved. She has many words of wisdom for you, so please join us in this inspirational conversation:Sana shares the raw, unfiltered emotions of going through a trauma and what kept her pushing through, day after day.We also talk about the law, and what made her pursue it, and how she managed tasks like homework, being paralysed from the chest down. We also talk about Inclusion and what it means to be an advocate for the differently abled in Pakistan, both the daily struggles and wins. If you think you can’t do something because you face too many obstacles, this episode will make you think again. Follow Sana Khurshid on social media:https://www.instagram.com/sanakhurshid.official/https://www.facebook.com/sanakhurshid.officialLiked this episode? This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
