War took the only person that treated Augum like more than gutterborn trash. Augum barely escapes, but is forced to flee into a terrible storm without shelter or supplies. On the verge of death, he collapses and later awakens in strange surroundings where he is tended by an elderly woman who offers him a choice. She will help him reach the nearest town, or – if he proves worthy – he could stay and become her apprentice.
