In 1523 kwam zowel in Antwerpen als in Amsterdam de eerste Nederlandse vertaling van Luthers Nieuwe Testament van de drukpers. Dat is dit jaar precies 500 jaar geleden. Het jaar daarvóór had Luther het Nieuwe Testament in het Duits vertaald. En die was meteen een groot succes. Dus veel de drukkers in de Lage Landen wedijverden met elkaar om als eerste met een Nederlandse vertaling op de markt te komen. Binnen een jaar lukte dat twee drukkers: Adriaen van Berghen in Antwerpen en Doen Pietersoen in Amsterdam. Vanwege dit jubileum, toont het Luther Museum in de zomer van 2023 twee bijbeluitgaven door deze drukkers.
