51. LA City Council & Redistricting Updates w/ Councilmember Nithya Raman & Sara Sadhwani, PhD.

from The Legal Lens Podcast · host Angela Reddock-Wright

One of the positive outcomes of the recent fallout of the leaked audio recordings from three LA City Councilpersons and a labor leader, is it has led to the LA City Council revisiting the City’s redistricting laws and regulations. We discussed this topic in-depth on the Legal Lens Show @ KBLA TALK 1580 with two great guests: LA City Councilmember Nithya Raman and Professor Sara Sadhwani. Hon. Nithya Raman is an urban planner, a working mother, an immigrant to America, and a member of the Los Angeles City Council representing District 4. She is also the initiator of the Redistricting Law and will help us better understand how the redistricting process works, as well as the thought behind her proposal and the implications of it being passed by the City Council. Sara Sadhwani is an assistant professor of politics at Pomona College and a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Bill Lane Center for the West. She served as a commissioner on the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission and will share with us lessons learned from her experience working on the Redistricting Commission, as well as potential implications of the current events in the City Council. Join us! We sure had a lot to talk about.
