#511 - Ellen Hunter Ulken

The Ellen Hunter Ulken Interview is presented on The Paul Leslie Hour.

This episode of The Paul Leslie Hour you’re about to hear deals with one of America’s all-time greatest songwriters. I’m talking about Stephen Foster.

Stephen Foster wrote such songs as “Oh! Susanna,” “Old Folks at Home,” “Hard Times Come Again No More,” “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,” “Beautiful Dreamer,” and others. It’s been said he was the most famous songwriter of the nineteenth century. His songs endure to this day. Everyone from Bing Crosby, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash… and in recent times even actor Bill Murray have recorded his work.

I’m a proponent of songwriter Stephen Foster and was able to interview Ellen Hunter Ulken who wrote a book that was both entertaining and interesting, “BEAUTIFUL DREAMER: The Life of Stephen Collins Foster.” I traveled down to Peachtree City, Georgia to record this interview it was a few years back. It originally broadcast on the radio.

It's a pleasure to present this to the online listeners, right here on The Paul Leslie Hour.

The Paul Leslie Hour is a talk show dedicated to “Helping People Tell Their Stories.” Some of the most iconic people of all time drop in to chat. Frequent topics include Arts, Entertainment and Culture.

The Paul McGregor Podcast Paul McGregor On the 4th March 2009, my life changed forever. My Dad, the man I looked up too, the man who in my eyes had 'everything' on paper took his own life. After it happened I struggled to deal with the grief, I buried the pain and found myself asking the question 'why' over and over again. I too then found myself struggling with depression and anxiety. This Podcast is all about documenting not only my own personal journey to discovering more about mental health and suicide, but to also document other stories too. It's time to talk about mental health, it's time to give it the voice it deserves and hopefully this Podcast can provide that. Hopefully this Podcast helps show others that they're not alone...Paul McGregor is an author, lecturer, a mental health advocate, husband, Father of 2 and avid Liverpool supporter. He shares daily content, giving mental health a voice across multiple social platforms and through speaking and workshops across the UK.<p style='color:grey; THE PAUL HALME AUDIO ADVENTURE Paul Halme Business, Fitness and Fun! The Paul Salamone Podcast Paul Salamone Berlin-based comedian Paul Salamone rants about pop culture, local geography, and books he's reading while playing cheap electronic music live on a synthesizer. Hear old road stories and laugh at Paul's attempts at self-improvement, foreign language mastery and financial freedom... all of it back by occasional techno jams, weird reggaeton and chiptune stupidity.
