#52 - Nick Yarris - Part 1: Lessons from 22 Years on Death-Row

from Origin Story with David McIntosh Jr · host David McIntosh Jr

PART 1: Nick Yarris is an American writer who spent 22 years on death row in Pennsylvania after being wrongfully convicted of murder. Nick has given us his last podcast appearance ever - almost as a gift. Across these two episodes, he shares his last lessons from death-row. He has shared his story across national television outlets and even on Joe Rogan. We laughed, we cried and we laughed again. In light of the horrific experiences, Nick said that prison was like a fond memory to him - due to learning and practicing neuro-plasticity healing. "best thing" to happen to him. "I have a photograph of the street gang I was in when I was a teenager. There were 27 of us, 26 are dead now. "Death row saved my life. It taught me everything is a luxury to be treasured." He later said: "When I got out, I got a mantra from my mother, who sat me down and said that I had to be a polite and kind man from now on and that I had to be kind, otherwise it was a waste of coming home." Nick goes in depth on the struggle of being on death row telling of some very traumatic experiences and how he taught himself the skills to cope through them and the rest of his life. He then opens up about losing his career during covid as all public speaking opportunities across the globe came to a halt. He also provided us the deepest account of losing his child of SIDS. He ended by thanking listeners of this show and left with a message of love - as he hangs up the podcasting boots. What an honour. Thank you Nick.
