It's a daily talk show and we're in Los Angeles. We're at In-N-Out, which is right next to the airport. It is the final show of our LA tour. And it's our ritual.
We did this last time. Last time it was episode 200. Yeah, so we were sitting... where was that?
Just over there, behind the tree. Yeah, we weren't videoing at that point. We weren't video camering, as Lara Bingle says, at that point. So now we actually get the full experience.
Or you get the full experience if you're watching on YouTube. You can see these ginormous jets. I mean, most people wouldn't think to do a podcast here based on the noise. But why not most people?
They're wrong. And given it's our LA trip of firsts, we did the edibles for the first time. 97 and I got drunk for the first time. Wacko wasted.
Yeah, we also are the other firsts. Thanks, Tully. Any other firsts? I mean, you probably tried 40 different foods for the first time.
It was the first time we were going to IHOP. I mean, you and I have been here a few times now. I've never done edibles before we came here. Oh, really?
That's a first. In the way that it wasn't packaged and delivered and all that sort of thing. So you knew what was in it. I just cooked it and ate it.
So anyway, this In-N-Out, if you're in Los Angeles, you've got to come here. It's right next to LAX. It's a perfect... Oh, you've got the hats.
You have to ask, obviously. It does have the hats. I mean, so the first day we got here, we got given these hats. And then they got a bit dirty.
I stood on them. Mason stood on them. Okay, let's put on our hats. There we go.
So these are like chef's hats that the In-N-Out staff wear. They look great. They look so good. Really good.
Can you see In-N-Out? Let's turn it to the front unit. Can you see In-N-Out on the front of my hat? No, you just got the palm trees.
Am I good? Thank you. Do you want to have a big smile at the front? Oh, yours has a severe coffee stain.
Yeah, I know. That's fine. Oh, that's so annoying. That's okay.
It's karma for stepping on the other one. Anyway, so In-N-Out, we actually went here on our first day in LA. I had their vegetarian option. Yeah, you did, which was a salad sandwich.
A sad, sad salad sandwich. I think Crocker pointed that out. Anyway, it has been a really good month, over a month, of me eating vegetarian. It's a solid effort.
You watched a documentary and you converted. Was it the day after or was it a couple of days after? What are you doing? The day after.
97 is tearing the bag like an animal. Animal style. He's gone full animal style on it. So they say In-N-Out is perhaps support local schools, charities that help strengthen the communities we serve.
To be honest, I've never read anything on the packages of In-N-Out because I've just been ravenous. Do you know what time, what year In-N-Out was... 1922. No, 1948.
1948. Oh, my mum's birthday. My mum was born in 1948. Great year.
Okay, so what I've done, and the reason you're talking about the vegetarian stuff is because fast forward to the end of our trip, different vibe that you're feeling. Well, so the reason why I did it was mainly for health, but also just to try it, to give it a go. We've got a bunch of friends that are vegetarian and I just wanted to do it as a bit of a challenge. But right now I'm handing you over.
This is under your directive, not mine. Let's see. So we were here, we've had 25 plus meals while we've been here. I haven't had one piece of meat.
You were saying, I think you should just keep going with this, but I've decided my mum keeps messaging me saying, eat meat. That's all she says. She doesn't say I love you. She doesn't ask how I am.
All she says is eat meat. And so... Here we go. Here we go.
It's been a while. I hope I'm not triggering anyone. I understand. So what I've learned from this whole experience.
Yeah, what have you learned? I've learned that I'm going to eat less meat. I'm not going to have meat with every single meal. Yeah, maybe like three times a week.
Yeah. Doesn't have to be meat and three veg every meal. Yeah, exactly. So now...
Here we go. This is... Cheers. Oh, cheers.
Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers.
This is a double double from In-N-Out. What a way to go. What a way to go. What are you blabbing about?
What a way to go. What a way to go. That'll be the last meal before we get on the plane. So here we go.
So I'm going to have to put my mic down. Yeah, do you want me to hold it? I can hold it. Oh, okay.
No, that's fine. I just had my burger upside down. I wanted to get the double double at the front here, because it says... I mean, the thing about the branding of a chain like In-N-Out, for some reason it feels like it's iconic.
But what has made it iconic? Has the brand itself become iconic, or is it the time of the design, like the branding? Is that... Because, you know, it's like, I want to make a dive bar.
The dive bar has to be there for 30 years before it looks like it's a dive bar. Or can you just design it to be a dive bar? What do you think? Oh, I've got my thumb.
Do you reckon I'm going to shit my pants on the flight? Apparently you'll be the opposite. I reckon it's clogged. I mean, brand...
Brand doesn't happen overnight. But it will happen. Yeah, so I think... It takes 69 years.
It takes a long time. What did you say? 61 years. I think 19...
Oh, I thought you'd finally revealed that you learned something from six months of your marketing course. It's 61 years. Is the... You know the stuff about, like, you need...
I don't know how many it is. You need six references or moments where someone interacts with your brand before it sticks. Before they memorise it. Did you know any of these?
That's the moments where people can remember this kind of stuff. No, I don't remember any of that. It sounds familiar, yeah. Yeah, I mean, or...
Or it's not. Or it's just one time. What do you think, 97, of In-N-Out? Does it live up to the hype?
Um... No, probably not. It doesn't? No, I don't reckon.
What a way to... What a way to go. No, I get it. No, I mean...
Everyone... From Australia, like, everyone's obsessed with it. Like, you think it's just the best... You hear that it's, like, the best thing in the world.
But it's... I don't know. It's sort of like, um... Betty's Burgers.
Betty's Burgers was great. Oh, yeah. I enjoyed Betty's Burgers probably more than this, but... But then, what about brands like Supreme?
Is it really that great? Like, is it worth lining up? We saw a Supreme line on Fairfax in West Hollywood that was, like, 200 metres and thick. Like, I was thinking, if you're in that line, you have cash to spend otherwise.
Why would you wait in the line? But is Supreme that great? Mm. So when you wear it...
All hype. All hype. Yeah, it's all hype. So maybe...
Is it okay to be all hype? Yeah, so people are buying. The trip, we've had a bunch of guest chats. Do you have any standout moments for the trip?
I really loved meeting Mimi and Alex Icon. Did you like that one pass? No, but I loved meeting them. The way a lot of these chats have come about is on the ground and, I mean, hustling.
I don't think we call ourselves hustlers, but we also like to make shit happen, so... We hustle. Yeah, you wanted Alex on, and I thought, oh, that's awesome. And so you took care of the sort of DMs and stuff, and then that happened.
And so the thing was, initially, I was like, I want... It'd be great to have Alex and Mimi on. Alex is like, oh, I don't think Mimi's going to be available. Anyway, we rock up to where they're staying.
Mimi opens the door, and she looks very confused. We have all of our camera equipment. I was behind you, and I saw her confused face. And then I saw you sort of come in, and I couldn't see your hand reaching out to shake her hand.
I thought you were trying to rush the door. But then I saw the shake. Yeah, so I shook her hand. Her confused face still stayed.
And Alex was on the phone, so he couldn't sort of explain to her what was going on. And so we explained, I don't know, we're doing a podcast. And she was nice enough to come on the show. But yeah, it was fun, because I also love that all the people we meet who live in L.A., people like your primary school best mate, Reece.
But then you've also Why because you're getting the plane landing. Yeah, the drag race. So not because it lasts, you pay per minute. So every minute we're sitting here, it's like 16 cents and I don't want to pay for that.
No, I understand. No, I appreciate that. Right, so, so who are you using your app by the way? Who's paying for this?
Yeah, this is your mum? Drag race. No, it's on the ING, so it's all good. If we, so the scooter's right there.
Yeah. If you want to go up to it. Yeah. I'll just hit ride.
So if you scan it with, it's got like a QR on the top of the handlebars. So just go up and scan it and it should just enable for you. That's $10 credit in the account. Right, so we're using your app by the way.
