525. Hiroshima & Nagasaki

from History of North America · host History of North America

In July 1945, the USA warned Japan of a powerful new weapon, but the Island nation ignored the many warnings—refusing to surrender. The American military dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9), bringing about the end of World War II (1939-45), thereby potentially saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of American military personnel, as well as Japanese soldiers and civilians over the course of a drawn out invasion of the Japanese islands.
