#53 - Celebrity Addicts Series: Ben Roethlisberger (Dr. Shaw)

Star football quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Christian, Ben Roethlisberger is very open about his addictive past: both to alcohol and pornography. In a quote via ESPN, Ben states that "it's not always easy. People don't realize all the time that we athletes, we're human. We sin like everybody else. I am no different. We make mistakes. We get addicted to things. We sin. We're human. I think sometimes we get to be put on this pedestal where we can't make mistakes. I've fallen as short as anybody. I've been addicted to alcohol. I've been addicted to pornography, which makes me then not the best husband, not the best father, not the best Christian I can be" (USA Today). Dr. Mark Shaw agrees that addiction is not a disease, but a sin issue of the heart, which the Bible calls idolatry. God has been faithful in Ben's life. Let's continue to pray for Ben as he seeks to honor God in every aspect of his life – including football.
