#53 - Nikki Denholm / Saying 'know' to sex

from Sex in Space

Jane had the privilege of speaking with Nikki Denholm for today’s podcast about her role as Director at The Light Project. With a background in health, Nikki is a pioneer who has specialised in establishing and leading positive, community-driven and solution-focused projects in response to emerging sexual health and gender issues. Nikki is also a company director of Exposure International – a collective of storytellers who want to bridge the gap between story and those who need to hear it. She’s the Project Director of the FGM Education Programme, and deservedly has been awarded a MNZM (New Zealand Order of Merit).  Jane and Nikki chatted about what The Light Project is and how Nikki got to where she is, the impact of pornography on young people, what's required to help young people be prepared for the kind of content they might see online, why it's so important for parents to have conversations about sex, sexuality and pornography with their kids, how the resources available on The Light Project and In The Know can help both parents and youth become more educated about the online world of pornography, and Nikki's thoughts on our latest book, How to talk with your kids about porn.
