54. Becoming More Aware Of YOUR Experience With Abuse In Your Marriage; Post Divorce Healing

from The Empowered Divorce Podcast; Navigating Divorce After Betrayal Trauma and Abuse · host Amie Woolsey Certified Brainspotting Practitioner; APSATS-CPC, ICF-PCP,

Ancestral Trauma and Patterns: Let's chat about how toxic relationship patterns often run in families. I was at a seminar on ancestral trauma, and it got me thinking about how these old patterns still affect us today. The more we recognize these patterns, the better we can break free from them. Personal Experience and Patterns: I'm sharing a personal story today, one that made me realize how past experiences shape our thinking. I remember a prom invitation I didn't want, but I went anyway. It turned into a nightmare. Even when we set boundaries, sometimes they get bulldozed. Neural Pathways and Familiarity: Let's dive into the brain stuff! Neurons create highways when we repeat actions or thoughts. Memories, feelings, and situations get linked in our minds. Childhood abuse can wire us for unhealthy relationships. Repeating Unhealthy Patterns: We often unconsciously seek to redo our past experiences. We think that if we're perfect or lovable enough, things will change. Shame can make us believe we deserve pain or abuse. Rewiring the Brain: Changing our thought patterns is like hiking a new trail without one. It takes time and effort, like using a machete to clear the way. We shouldn't beat ourselves up when it's not quick and easy. The Relationship Dynamic Assessment: I'm introducing a fantastic tool called the Relationship Dynamic Assessment. It helps identify and understand unhealthy relationship patterns. It's emotional, but it's a crucial step in healing. Breaking Ancestral Trauma Chains: Breaking the cycle of generational trauma is empowering. Owning our stories and moving from shame to self-compassion is essential. We can recognize and confront unhealthy patterns. Taking Action: It's time to practice your rights in relationships! Self-care and emotional support are vital. Let's reflect on what you believe your relationship rights are.
