This of course depends on the family, although for my family (Minami), it is not too rare to see/hear them annually or when something happens to our family member, even moving somewhere. There is one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies called "Contact", which shows the contrast between the main 2 character's beliefs in Religion and Science. In the end, both of their ultimate purposes were to find the truth of the universe.
