She ran the Tennessee Children's Home Society, an unlicensed adoption agency in Memphis, Tennessee, which served as a front for her black market baby adoption operation from the 1920s until 1950. Tann orchestrated the kidnapping of young children, who were then sold to wealthy families, subjected to abuse, or, in some cases, killed.
