Twee jaar geleden nam ze een opzienbarend besluit: Merel van Vroonhoven nam afscheid van haar baan als topvrouw, om leerkracht in het speciaal onderwijs te worden. In haar boek De Stap beschrijft ze hoe ze in haar twintig jaar in het bedrijfsleven de weg vindt naar de hoogste bestuurskamers van de ING, de NS en de Autoriteit Financiële Markten. Dan hakt ze de knoop door, om zich in te zetten voor kinderen die het niet vanzelfsprekend op eigen kracht redden. Aan de hand van muziek spreekt ze erover met Floortje Smit.
