55. Trauma Bonding Or Post-Divorce Adaptive Bonding Cycle?

from The Empowered Divorce Podcast; Navigating Divorce After Betrayal Trauma and Abuse · host Amie Woolsey Certified Brainspotting Practitioner; APSATS-CPC, ICF-PCP,

When I read the new term and definition of Partner Adaptive Bonding Cycle created by my friend and colleague Hope Ray, LPC, CSAT, CHFP, CCPS, I felt like something landed in my body and my body liked it. A language, if you will, to explain what I had experienced in my previous marriage. I also started to see how this also continues to show up in many ways post divorce. In today's episode, I'm sharing a sub term that had also yet to be defined, and I wanted to define it– The Post-Divorce Adaptive Bonding Cycle (Post-Divorce ABC). This definition and model matters because understanding it can empower you to make choices and heal, especially if you've experienced betrayal and violence in your divorce. In todays episode I'm sharing the basic idea of this model with key components that qualify this. Key Components of PABC Post-Divorce ABC comprises: Attachment to unresolved issues and trauma. Emotional complexity: a mix of memories, trauma, and hope. Fear of change, impacting self-identity. Continued investment in the past. Fear of detachment affecting emotions and practical aspects. Impact on future relationships: trust issues and emotional reactions. Challenges in CO-Parenting Continued coercive control Join me today as I introduce this new model and your practice work from this episode is to. be curious as to how these key components might be showing up for you.
