It isn’t as simple as making sure our characters end up doing the right thing. They must do the right thing for the right reasons, even as they discern between the so-called right thing and the actual right thing. Since we live in a fallen world, sometimes the right thing isn’t as clear as we’d like it to be. In these types of situations, characters who try to uphold the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law are the noble and godly characters, whereas those who hold to unrelenting rules are legalists – not moral at all. If we don’t have a clear understanding of this as writers, we are in danger of leading our audience’s astray.  UP NEXT Next week, we will address the question of language in story. Is it ever okay for a Christian to use swear words?  THE WELL CREATIVITY CONFERENCEZena Dell Lowe is honored to be a Keynote Speaker at THE WELL CREATIVITY CONFERENCE, which takes place in Grand Rapids MI on April 22-23, 2021.
