56. Blazing The Trail For Transparency in Beauty, with Emily Hoyt of LATHER
from All Too Well
A fellow pioneer woman joins me today! And she is f-ing delightful.Emilie Hoyt is the founder and CEO of LATHER, one of the first, if not the first, beauty and personal care companies to focus on clean ingredients and synthetic-free fragrances. Long before the emergence of the "clean beauty" movement, Emilie endured severe migraines, occasionally impairing her vision, and after exhaustive research, she discovered that her personal care products were the likely trigger. One dangerous ingredient stood out among the rest: synthetic fragrance, otherwise known as toxic, petroleum-based compounded chemicals that are permitted to be used in 95% of beauty products. Lather was born in 1999, before the internet, y'all! Hats off to founders blazing trails.WE COVERED:The link between personal care products and endocrine disrupting chemicalsThe importance of transparency with packaged products--consumers have a right to know before they purchaseThe endless hours of grunt work involved in building a company when there's no template for the idea. First movers are a special breed! How standards for ingredients change with new research and companies need to evolve with the science RESOURCES:https://www.lather.com/ (Yep, she actually got that URL!)@lather* * * * * * * * * * * * *Follow: @misshussSign up for my newsletter for a weekly dose of wellness wisdom!Work: www.ericahuss.com
