It feels like, obviously it's spring, but it feels like summer is coming. When you see the sun, it feels like summer is just around the corner, so obviously a lot more skating going on. Lovely, that's what we like to hear. Vans Special Edition podcast mate.
Got a lot of Vans content out there, so we've got loads to talk about. Yes, looking really good. I've got a nice bit of footage for us recently. Before we get into the Vans shit, let's talk about some Instagram clips.
I did send you one of these clips earlier in a week, and it's this little Japanese motherfucker with the frontside flip. Do you see this? Yes, I did. Cheeky little frontside flip, that was...
Yeah, a bank to bank frontside flip. I can't pronounce his name, but it's spelled UMKZ underscore O H W A. You know, you must be listening to the podcast. We like the frontside flip.
He's sticking a beautiful one down on a bank to bank skatebike, but this could must be between six and eight or something, maybe. What do you reckon? Yeah, probably bang on that sort of age. Still on the small stage, I actually clicked onto his Instagram and watched some other clips, and yeah, it just goes straight for it.
No messing about. It's going to be a really good skater, not that he isn't ready. So yeah, you haven't seen it. Have a little look.
Really impressive. He's definitely someone to follow when just a watch blossom, basically. There was another clip mate that I really, really appreciated, and you might have a little other that watches a new magenta video that's just come out. It's simple, and Sergio, I don't know what his surname is, but his Instagram is Sergio aka Sir.
He hits his backside, Nolly Hill down like this, kind of like a flat gap, not like a massive size drop or anything, but it lands into the road and cleans out a bike. It was a pretty heavy, heavy, heavy bail. Would you see this? I don't know if I did, but I was watching a lot of their content the other day, and I love a bit of magenta.
So yeah, that's a laugh to go check that out. Yeah, I mean, maybe we'll break down a video or something mate, but yeah, he hits his backside and Nolly Hill lands into the road and there's a bike coming. It's the classic, you know, it's the classic that just hits it blindside obviously, shoulder down and he's not, once he's pulled that trigger, he can't see that way. Yeah, they both slam into each other and it's a heavy hit, but he lands the backside, Nolly Hill is a well-afu always mate, he does get the trick.
Nice, we like to see it. Is that the one where the, is it a girl on the bike or something like that? I don't know if it's a girl on the bike. I didn't really pay much attention to who was on the bike.
I just saw them slam. I think I might have actually seen that. And Instagram clips that you like this week mate? It's kind of a late one, but let's mention it.
You and Jono were kind of talking about it not too long ago, and we brought it up during the best tricks of the year and Instagram clip of the years and stuff. And Jono was talking about the guy who did the crooks, Nolly Flip crooks. Remember talking about that with me? I do, yeah, I do, yeah.
So he's done another one now. I'm sure quite a few people have seen it. And it is Crooks, Nolly Frontside Flip, Switch Vivo, back to regs. I was fucking impressed by that one, you know what I'm saying?
So that was a good one. That could be in trick or year, anyway. That could be early contender for 2021. He might have been listening to the podcast and was like, fuck, you know, I didn't make it.
I'm gonna have to step it up, even though I set a pack banging out mate. Yeah, he must have been listening. He must have heard of saying that it was good, you know, but he needed just to step it up a little bit and he definitely has done. I don't know if you listen to the, when we were talking about Tampa Pro and one of the previous episodes, mate, and we were saying that we can't, you know, we can't really find it.
We haven't been watching many of the most recent installments of the competition because just couldn't find it anywhere. One of our little listeners actually did write in and let's know that it is just on the YouTube live kind of feed. So you can go to Tampa. So it's just there, really waiting for you every single year.
So we're just, you know, me and John, we're just lacking basically. But just to let everyone know that, yeah, Tampa will be on, it's on the YouTube channel. It's been on there for the last four years or something. So yeah, definitely check out when it comes on.
Oh, got another little mention. I'm not really an Instagram one, but more was on YouTube flicking around and seeing what's going down in the UK. And the Hopkins have got a little channel. I don't know if you've seen it.
And they've been posting a lot of the Jamie Griffin stuff, a bit of Alex the Cooner, if you're familiar with those guys and you know, they're doing all the nuts, crazy, flat ground tricks and that sort of stuff. Really good watch actually, if you're into some of that. It's funny you say that. I didn't see that in particular, but obviously Jamie Griffin comes up quite a lot on Instagram and the barracks push a lot of his shit.
And he was actually running the Hopkins board in one of his last post. So it's strange that it's you've got this hot property who obviously gets millions of likes and views and everything. He's right. He's not getting hooked up by a legitimate company.
Maybe he is, but he's kind of given back in and using a hot king board. I just would have thought someone would have grabbed him a little bit earlier. You know, something, you know, just a big company. You might as well get this kid.
He's got exceptional talent in his feet. Obviously, I don't want to hate on him and say that he hasn't got the great style of all time. Obviously, he hasn't got American pro style standard, but he's still very, very good. He can do more at MBDs, probably than anyone else on the planet.
So I just, it was interesting that he doesn't have a proper sponsor underneath his feet. Yeah, it's one of those funny ones where I'm sure he's got a couple and maybe they're just not out there. And maybe it's one of those things I think he is actually working works out hot king. So maybe it's just kind of like a little crew going on there and it's just kind of working out at the moment.
But yeah, kind of like with you there, he definitely stands out a lot with a, you know, the barracks question on the time you think there might be other people offering here and there. Maybe in the future, you know, maybe in the future. Yeah, hopefully in the future. I mean, I just want to thought of someone, you know, someone like almost for example, who always have had this, you know, those skaters that can do the extra, the extra flip.
You know, they always get that guy or girl or whatever that can do that extra. They look extra something, something in a maneuver. They've always kind of acquired those skaters. And I thought he would be a perfect fit for those guys because he's just that exceptional kind of, you know, Rodney Mullins style of being able to flip the board with, you know, with a little extra on top of it as well.
I'm not saying put him on pro or anything, mate. I'm not saying he's like I said before, I don't think he's necessarily pro pro quality of, you know, operating. I've never seen him skate in real life. So, you know, it's just bullshit from my end.
But that's what I'm saying. There's a big difference. You know, when we saw a such a plug go into battle of the barracks, then he got his arms handed to him. He's kind of, you know, he's kind of like that by a legit pro.
And he's having a good day. He's going to absolutely rep everyone a new one. But is he consistent? That's what I'm saying.
I'm not saying he isn't. I'm just putting out there and saying is he consistent. That's it. You know, I think hopefully there's more of these good Instagram clips and YouTube clips that's been coming out and we can kind of indulge in a bit more and see exactly how consistent it is by the looks of it.
He looks really fucking consistent. And like you're saying, maybe someone will grab him. Maybe this heart King will push him in a different direction. And he might bloom a little bit more and get a few more years under his belt and it might push him even further towards the other standard.
But yeah, I'd love to see him in a real big game of skate. You know, maybe he has to step up and throw some worldwide game of skates out again and see where people can go. But it probably probably fucking yeah, breeze through a lot of it. Yeah, exactly.
I mean, it's just one of those things that, you know, just imagine if I was playing Chris Colton game of skate, I might miss the kick flip mate. You know what I mean? It's going to happen because you might get a little bit jelly legs. You might get intimidated.
And the same thing for this guy. I mean, obviously he skates every day. He's absolutely killing it. But you could be having an off day.
You could just miss a just over rotate a fakey shove. You know, it happens. It definitely happens or under rotate it. And then he could get absolutely wrecked by someone who could just land everything bolts.
You know what I mean? Like we came up against a Shana Neil. Really, there's Jamie Griffin wants to be winning the Rose Shambo because if he doesn't win Rock Paper Scissors, he's probably going to get destroyed by a pro. But if he were to win a Rock Paper Scissors or against pretty much anyone on the planet, you probably put your money on him.
Yeah, that's it. You know, there's only a good handful of people in the pro standard of that category. You know, you've got your day ones has that, you know, everyone who's putting down shit like that, it really fucking stands out. So probably we'll be putting you on it.
Yeah, exactly. Well, hopefully when world lockdown kind of lightens up a little bit and they start people can travel a little bit more and you can get over there and hopefully we'll be in the next battle of fireworks because that will be something to be seen. Let's move on to some Vans videos. Obviously this is a Vans super podcast, whatever I called it straight away.
It's a Vans edition podcast. Now we're going to start mate with Jackson Pills is no reception part for Vans. This did happen at the end of 2020. Didn't really pay much attention to it.
No, it came out, but just there's so many videos that are flying around and we were trying to kind of get 50 podcasts done before the new year. So it was, you know what I mean? We weren't really grabbing every single video that's coming out. But I've recently watched it and it is very, very good.
I don't know if you've seen this mate, but it's fucking, it's a great part. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have and going to have a little refresher on the background. But yeah, let's go for it. Yeah, it's just one of those things.
I knew it was old and I was like, you know, when February come into March, can we kind of put it into Vans edition? I was like, you know, it's a perfect excuse. It's already got 100,000 views on YouTube and it's a nice three minutes and eight seconds, mate. So very, you know, that's a perfect sort of, you know, I can watch that.
Easy. Yeah, nothing, you know, when you always think about a part of whatever you think, the length of a good song. So that, you know what it. The tune, I'm just going to start with the tune straight away.
It's a really, really nice tune. It kind of reminds me of something that Mark Apple would use. You know, that kind of floaty, kind of airy, slightly surf-a-touch tune because he's an Aussie lad, obviously he's a beach boy, probably likes a surf a little bit as well. So as that nice air, you know, a lot like Vulcan like to put in their videos.
It's by a band called Skin Shape and it's Take My Time. So if you, you know, you type that in probably on type in a YouTube or Spotify or whatever Apple music, you don't have a listen because it's just a nice, it's a nice airy tune. You know, it's just enjoyable when it fits his style as well. Obviously Jackson Pills isn't like a superpower house.
He isn't super tech. He's just everything. He is what, you know, he is probably, if you're talking about skates on a planet, he's got to be, you know, he's got to be top 20, you know, he's right up there. So it just worked for him.
He didn't kind of dictate the play. He didn't really do anything, which I kind of like sometimes. Sometimes I like a part, you know, music to give something in the part. But sometimes if you're that good, it doesn't need to do shit.
It just needs to just aid you through the journey, mate. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, and that's it. And, you know, it definitely happens in, throughout skate parts.
You'll get songs that only really kind of get big because of the skate video. You know, you associate that tune with the tricks and good vibes and memories throughout that part of skateboard. Yeah, yeah, definitely. So straight away, mate, you've got points, you know, press play, press play.
Yeah. And he got points straight away. You know what I'm talking about, don't you? Oh, within the first minute, big points.
Big points. You've got points straight away. That front stuff flips straight out of that bowl, beautiful front stuff, and he's just declaring because Jackson feels again, I don't necessarily kind of associate him with a tranny skater. I know he's got tranny.
I'm not saying he has any tranny, but I see him always streets. I see him always interesting tech, you know, doing shit that no one else can do. But obviously just putting that chill vibe in there, just boosting around that bowl and hitting hoofing a beautiful front stuff about there already is getting the arcadey tick there. I was like, right?
OK, he's on his way to a five star. We could just keep this up. And he goes again. He does deliver again.
I did really like me. He gets that hippy flip bumped a bar. Yes. Yeah, that's really nice.
That sort of trick. You know, I know Arto Sarri was back in the day doing, I think he had a switch flip. Like it wasn't a bumped a bar, but switch flip hippy jump, you know, through a bar, basically, but obviously Arto Sarri's Gordon, the King of skateboard. So it's a little bit different.
But yeah, this hippy jump kick flip is perfect. Really, really well done. You know, it went sloppy. It was pretty clean.
Yeah, it was really nice. One combo in this in this video, mate, and I've told you time stamp. So time stamp is at 56 seconds. Oh, yeah, I know.
I know. I really enjoyed this. Yeah, so this is special. We should right here.
This is like when you see this shit, it's like how the fuck did he actually do this? Because if you left me there for 20 years at that spot with limited boards and then in everything, I don't think I'd ever be able to do what he did ever. You know, if that was my goal in life to do that, I don't think I'd actually have the ability to do it. So he always up a block to Manny drops down one block, then drops down on talk around rails of 50.
Then from the 50, this is the cheeky bit. I really liked from that 50 kind of step up to nose, Manny. You know what I'm saying? He's like inside each pocket of the nose and the tail and just just shimmies into position gets the nose man.
You're thinking, this is clean. He's obviously just getting some nice triple combo shit. Then he hits the noise flip out of there as well, which I did not think I was going to see the flip out. Did you see the flip coming?
Because I didn't see the flip coming. I think as soon as it's like halfway into the block, you see his foot do that little adjustment. I'm like, oh, yeah, it's coming. But until that further adjustment, you're just like, oh, nice, you know, finish it with a nose, Manny.
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Just finish it clean. Just get out of there now. You know, you've done hard work.
You're in that manner. You just get out of it. But I mean, how many times do you think that he did the combo? You know, Manny dropped down, dropped onto a rail, nose man.
How many times did he got to that point? Trying the Nolli flip or do you think he hit it without the Nolli flip? And then there was one that he just felt it was good and just thought you might be able to get it and throw it. What do you think that was?
Would you think he was stuck there for two hours? I honestly don't know. It's, you know, he might be one of those, you know, nose man, Nolli flips, not part of them as long as the nose man is right. The Nolli flips come out.
So it could happen pretty quick. It might be, it might be harder to get in front of the 50 and lift it up into the nose and keeping the speed to get a nice nose man. Instead of just like really holding on to get that nose man. You know, I'm saying, you know, yeah, 20 minutes, maybe less, I think, just getting everything else flowy was the higher.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I was thinking that the drop down to 50, mate, that'd probably be the hardest bit. Yeah.
Because that's a round rail. You know, that isn't that isn't a comfortable thing. I don't think he just glides onto it. I think there is a bit of a drop onto that as well.
I haven't got it right up in front of me now, but correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was a bit of a drop. But I think just, does he just ride onto it or is there a drop a little bit of impact on that? So half a foot drop? Well, that's enough.
That's what I'm talking about. That's enough to really throw you because, you know, with a round rail, you've got to be, I suppose with a square rail to a certain degree, you can't, you know, you still have, you've got to be poised, your balance has got to be ready. You've got to know if you're going to be on your heels side, you've got to be know if you're twisting it a little bit, you know, you've got to know what you're doing. But it didn't seem like it's facing the torch.
I mean, it's like it was rolling past it. And that's when when I started obviously hit the front of flip, you know, tick, then he hits this sort of combo. And it's like, now it starts turning into something very, very exceptional. So that's getting exciting.
I mean, there's loads, there's loads of loads of clips in this video that we can break down. There's only a couple more that I'm going to bring up because we've got to move on. We've got to keep going with this van shit. But it's a hippie heel in there as well, mate.
It does hit, he he he he. So he hits a hippie flip and a hippie heel, you know, who's hitting those, both of those tricks in one part. Yeah, not many guys, for sure. And then possibly my favourite trick in a whole video, so my favourite trick in a whole video, he hits a flip 50, it's on like this waved ledge.
And I'm not saying it's his best trick in it. But what I'm saying is someone who likes a flip 50 and I can kind of, I can imagine doing it. The sensation of hitting a flip 50 is nice. You know, it's just real nice, kind of like, you know, locking good.
But if you're going to ride that on a way, concrete wave, mate, how nice would that feel? You know, that would feel so good, obviously, in England, we don't get ledges like that. You know, they're crusty and they're shit and you're lucky if you get a marble one. But this one was just beautiful.
And it just, it just went with it, you know what I'm saying, with the tune, it just went with it really nicely. And it just kept that surfy kind of just relaxed vibe through. Yeah, definitely not what you're saying there. I bet he probably did that handful of times just because it felt so good.
And yeah, just nice and flow. Get a little mini pump in there. Yeah, really jealous on that. Looks really fun.
Exactly. I mean, that sort of spot, mate, me and you turn up there, what you hitting first of all. So, all you wax, it's all ready for you. What you hitting?
I'm obviously going to hit the warm up 50 and then I'm probably going to try and five over the whole wave. Nice. I was thinking the same thing. Obviously, you've got to hit that warm up 50.
Because you're just looking at it and going like it feels so good. And maybe I hit another 50 just to go faster, you know, just try one. Let's speed, try and go real super fast here and try not to obviously get taken out by the waves. But then you're like saying a nice long five oh, I think it'd be very difficult.
I think it'd be really, really hard to get a long five on that. But it just feels so good to just go up and down those pumps and get out, you know, get out of that edge. Yeah, that's it. It'd be a bit of a challenge for sure.
It'd just be a nice feeling the whole way around. It'd almost be nice. I was thinking that if you could maybe transfer 50, you know, on the wave. So like pop over the top.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So kind of fit, you know, get into something, you know, clear the top of a wave and land into the belly of it. You know what I mean?
It might be, I'm sure they tried to do that sort of shit. But it just, I could see him doing something like that, you know. It'd even be nice just to kind of like ollie in into one of the downs and like pop out at the top. Yeah, if you could like get in there and hit a frontside free out of it would be very, very nice.
Very tasteful trick. Or even like, I'm sure some people have got a nice tail slide over a bun put in on that. That'd be nice. Yeah, definitely.
Yeah. Long old tail slide. Get and get to a peak of one of the waves, mate. Get to the peak of one of the waves and get yourself out then.
You know, you could always come down, but I think get to a peak and then just declaring right. I've had enough of this slide. I'm coming down. I'd like it to go to Fakie as well, mate.
It's just more with a flow. That's just a preference of mine. I'm gonna give it a little turbo rate. And I don't know if you don't need to make it.
You don't want to put your head in the block here. Obviously, you haven't watched the part as fully as I have. But feel free if you want to just throw it out there. I'm giving this a four star because of the quality of trick and probably the NBDs in it, you know, under part as a whole.
It was just really kind of flowy. Ticked all the boxes for me. So I'm forced out on it. Yeah, this is a good part.
There was a lot of nice bump to bad, but it was fucking impressive and really fun all the way through. Loads of good tricks, loads of surprises as well, which is what makes a good video. Yeah, loads of surprises and just things that make you go, you've got a second angle on that shit. You know, you want to see some shit again, like a tippy jump that kind of goes over the fucking just sends that board up, you know, absolutely shoots the board into the air on the other side of that, that right.
We know what I'm talking about. Yeah, it's got a decent drop. It's like just before the end. Yeah, massive drop.
And it was just like, wow, because that would be scary, very, very scary to kind of put your feet on the other side and not think you're going to break a collarbone on the way down. Yeah, and it's definitely one of those ones where when you're bashing your board up like that, it's quite hard to actually put, you know, get a nice foot placement back on your board because it's not like you're doing a flip trick. You know, not he just didn't see another problem at all there. Yeah, exactly.
You have you have properly left your board. You know, if you're like, you're just doing a hippie jump over some, you know, like a little skate park rail or some cone stacked or something like that, you can't really leave the board. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah, your shoulders are still above it.
Your balls are still above it. You know, your head is in the same spot, but something like that, you know, you are as soon as you've whuffed that onto a ramp or bashed it up, you've left that boards gone. You are no longer part of that board. I mean, look like he never left the board at all.
It just seemed like it was stuck to him. Yeah, that's it. No way he's doing there. And maybe maybe had a few goes at who knows, probably not too many.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, not too many, but that one was perfect. So yeah, well, we'll deserve four star, obviously five star, very, very difficult to get. But in terms of taking all the boxes of escape video, you pretty much hit all of them. So yeah, well done, Jackson.
It was a fucking sick part. Yep. So now we're going to move on to the Rowan mix part for bands skateboarding. Have you seen this part?
Yep. Came out on the 22nd February, Scott, 88,000 views in its three minutes and 40 seconds long. The tune is from a band called Sublime and it's called Free Loop. And there's another one actually, another tune called East of Sunday as well by a band called Zilopools.
Really, really good video, mate. There's a lot of kind of old shit in there, a lot of old shit in there, sliced him some new shit. So there's a lot of slow mo. And the problem is when you put slow mo into stuff, as the audience, as the viewer, and inside scoop, if you're a little bit more in tune with the skate videos or more in tune with the industry, you probably know that they obviously didn't get as much footage as they wanted, or they're just trying to fill something and they're just trying to throw some B roll, some clips that didn't make it into the Baker video.
You know what I'm saying? And that's kind of what that's the feeling that I got from this video overall, really enjoyed it, really, really kind of got a flavor of Rowan's style. But it just left me kind of going, yeah, they just put this shit out. Fair enough to them.
They did call it the Rowan mix and declared it as well. And that's nice, well, I could be a bit of honesty. So makes sense. Yeah, no, with this, maybe because of that reason, I'll get straight straight into my server, it's not going to break down any of the tricks or anything.
It was a two star, you know, solid, enjoyable, but when you kind of rehashing old footage and putting your B roll up and call it in a mix kind of just loses me a little bit. So I'm just going to give it a two star, not one star, I'm not completely slagging it off, nearly halfway on the five star chart. It just, you know, it's just a bit of filler. Yeah, I've got it on in the background now and I'm going to agree with you there.
Like, it's nice to watch Rowan goes up. Sometimes you just want to see a little bit more. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Right, let's move on, man.
We've got the the van's China little documentary. Have you seen this? So I'm not sure if I've seen the whole thing, I've definitely seen a lot of the clips in it and a lot of the clips have been shared on Instagram. From outside of looking into China, obviously we've had the coronavirus, a lot of stigma involved with that sort of shit and you have kind of an idea.
There's a propaganda at play at the moment and everyone's kind of following suit and that's kind of conditioning our minds to think of a certain country in a certain way. One thing vans kind of jump into China is something big and when you see when it breaks down, basically this female van skater called Housie Jan, she's really good. I think she's been, I've been skating for a long, long time, but she's committed to the cause and she's pretty fucking good. It breaks down these barriers for us a little bit more and actually shows it on a human level that these are just skaters just like me and you.
They go to the shop for the session. See you's about, you know, just go for a little role, have a little game of skate. It breaks down barriers for me and it was something I don't sometimes I don't really like this shit because it always does it to a generic little documentary about skateboarding. But on this occasion, it really worked for me because it's like these motherfuckers over there, just like me and you, they just skate and have a game of skate and just because they've got no internet and maybe they're politicians in their country and the infrastructure of their country is very different to ours.
It doesn't mean really, they're actually much different to us and it was strong mate. It worked on me. You know what I mean? Yeah, no, totally.
It's nice sometimes when you have that relation of understanding when you think it's hard to understand how different life can be in different places. So it's nice to kind of get that insight and feel a bit more connected through the state community. Yeah, yeah, definitely, you know, anyone listening, definitely get a watch on YouTube. I think if you just go into the advances YouTube channel, you'll be able to find it.
If you type in bands china or something like that, you'll be able to find it. It's a really nice eye opener and just a story about a person, forget skateboard and forget any of this shit. It's just a story about someone who loves doing something from a different side of the planet. So it's just really, really enjoyable, well put together, not overproduced, a little documentary.
It was nice. Yeah, we've got it on in the background now. Really, really enjoy what I've seen. Cool.
I'd fucking love to go skate china. Some of those spots look amazing. What do you think mate? Mate, me and you and China would be finding that ledge, wouldn't we?
We'd be finding that perfect ledge first. We don't need to jump down anything yet. We'd maybe do that in a second day. On the first day, we'd be like ledge hunters.
We're going to be looking for those fun, fun nice spots and a nice, nice fresh ground. Yeah, do you remember in, I think it was in fully flared, Alex Olsen's part in that and there's like a wave spot in that that you boost over a bike or something like that in it? Yeah. Maybe it's a big frontside flipper.
No, maybe it's a backside 360 or some sort of cab. Anyway, that's what I've been looking for. Yeah, super fun all day. It's kind of like one of those natural skate park spots where you can't imagine anything but skate wouldn't go down there.
So yeah, yeah, exactly. I'd be looking for the shove. If I just turned up and get that ollie up, let that wave hit me and I'd hit you on boost, the biggest fucking shove out. Clear the other side.

Right. Now, obviously, this is a documentary sort of thing. So no need for a turbo rating. It's just enjoyable.
Let's move on mate. Next video I want to talk about. Well, two videos. The vans frog colab.
So frog skateboards. They've been going for a few years now. Interesting style. It's basically a small career skater that just started making our own brand and just snowball.
It's just done really well. So these two videos are one thing on introducing frog skateboards to the world. You got to remember that vans is massive commercial conglomerate that can pump information out of people whereas frog skateboards didn't really have the platform to do that before. So people are going to take notice when vans do a little kind of documentary with them.
Really nice breaks down the skates and everything. And then the second video is more of like selling the shoe. I mean, selling the apparel that kind of goes with it. Have you seen any of this mate?
Yeah, I have. Really nice little enjoyable watch. I've been following the little frog skateboard Instagram for a while. It's good to see.
The skater they're kind of following is just Nick Michael. It's spelled Nick Elle, but he pronounced it Michael. So I'm going to go along with it. Nick Michael, and he is a ripper.
He is so good. He is so good. Yes. They're all good at transition.
They've all got this. I mean, me and you probably wouldn't be in their crew mate. Nick Michael's got all round skills. He's just going to be big.
Very, very big. Yeah, definitely a triple fret kind of guy is moving on all terrain, which is good to see. It's nice to have a bit of an ex. I'm going to break down the second video mate with the shoe and kind of then putting their little mellow little letter out there, but it was getting the merch out there as well.
I think to the right audience and to the right skater and to the right kind of, you know, people who like a little bit of color, like a little bit of kind of playfulness, I think it's awesome. You're going to catch me in these shoes? Unfortunately not. I mean, maybe if they did a blacked out version, then you might see me in them, but they're a little bit too playful for me, a little bit too childish.
But if you're into something that's got a little bit of color, just a little bit of like I said, lightheartedness. I think you really enjoy the shoe. But for me, and I'm sure I can speak you will. You ain't catching buckbillon those shoes, are you?
Yeah, I'm not going to be buying the shoe or going to be wrapping it. But doesn't mean it's not good like you're saying there's going to be people who it's right up there straight. So check it out. Yeah, exactly.
When a small company's like this gets a co-lab and the consumer like me and you fucking stick our money down, put our hand in our pocket and buy that shit, that only helps that small company. I know vans, again, it's this huge company that obviously is own, the VF group home vans, they're in Dickies, they're in Timbaland, it's a big corporation. But just take a slice of that pie, just think about it. If Frog Skateboards does well at this, they're probably going to get another co-lab.
And the good thing about these big companies doing this co-lab is they're not talking small numbers. They're going to be buying a lot of shit. They're going to be obviously licensing their logo, they're going to be putting it on there, they're going to be making a decent amount of money on there. And then that's going to pay skateboarders.
That's going to be able to step up their production quality, step up all aspects of their company. So it can only help. So if you're a little bit cynical, and I am a little bit with the big companies getting involved, but you've got to break it down. Vans obviously hooked up with Frog and probably made them a fuckload of money.
So that's the simplest way of breaking it down. So if you like this shit, go buy a pair. They're probably not that expensive, probably 50, 60 quid. So if you like it, just go for it, gamble on it.
You're going to be helping a small company out. That's it. Yeah, on stuff like this, vans obviously only make as much money as they make off of any shoe they upload or bring out rather. But for the Frog team, it gives them a huge bit of opportunity money to succeed in giving us more skate content.
So if you like what you see, feel like a bit of neck on the crew fucking helps me out. Let's move on, mate. The most anticipated video for me out of all these, my favourite video out of all the videos we spoke about is Gilbert Crockett Raw Files for All Right Okay. Yes.
Now we did cover the original All Right Okay video, which was Gilbert Crockett with Elijah Burl. Really, really good part. Crockett starts off Burl finished it. Great part.
Really, you know, it was, for me, it was a very, very strong part. Yes. But seeing Gilbert Crockett work with no music behind him in the streets operating, showing you his consistency. There's not much, there's not much more I need to see.
Crockett's one of those skaters that I could watch all fucking day. He is just so good. He's got the right trick selection. He picks the right spots.
You can see serious. You can see he's got a bit fun in him. And it's just a right mix. And just when when you crumble that, you know, that production down around it and you just left with that shit afterwards, mate, it's still work for me.
It's still really, really entertaining. Really enjoyed the video. Yeah, that's it. Gilbert Crockett, solid, solid great skater to watch.
Great tricks. It's been mentioned quite a bit on the show recently for that sort of reason. So yeah, great watch. Love the raw, raw files.
Really kind of shows you how consistent, how hard it goes as well. So sometimes with the raw files, they can go a little bit too long for me. That's just a personal taste. Sometimes the raw files, and I never really used to like watching the raw files because it was, for me, the part is the finished article.
But having said that, Crockett's a man that I like to watch. So I obviously had to go down that rabbit hole. It was only a four minute 26 raw files. So nothing too bad to kind of, I've got five minutes to spare.
I can watch it. It's already done, it's already 90,000 views on YouTube. So it's doing, I mean, it's doing good in a couple of weeks, 10 days or whatever. So it's doing really, really good.
And I'm just hoping, like I said before, mate, it was one of my picks for skate really, I'm just hoping that Gilbert puts a quasi part out there, gets another couple of bands parts out there. You could definitely win it. You can definitely win it. Yeah, definitely buy a lot of these clips and everything else.
If he keeps going like this, there's going to be no stuff in him. He's going to keep going, keep finding these really cool spots. And yeah, fucking putting it out really, really going for it, which is nice. Definitely like you said, I'm hoping to see more from him.
And yeah, skate really, yeah, definitely going to be achievable. I'd be very happy if someone like that once, skate really, yeah. You know, when someone deserves it and someone's a good skateboarder and they've been paying their dues for years and years and years, and you can remember when they first came in, when they broke in, and now when they're, you know, one of the top skaters on the planet coming first, fall circle. Obviously he's got fucking years and years and years to go before he's done trying to get that, that's a year title.
And not that it really might not even mean anything to him. He might not even care about it. But he's someone that I'd absolutely love to see win that trophy. Yeah, exactly.
Wouldn't, would not be disappointed at all. Well, as long as he keeps going on how he is. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly.
And still wins it. Yeah. There's a clip in this video that's start made with the security guard. Have you seen it?
It's nice security guard ever. It is basically saying, do you remember this back in the day? We used to do this. We used to do that.
And it's like, why can't every security guard be like that? You know, that chair when just that kind of like, you know, I was their voice. I was doing it back in the day. But it wasn't, you know, it wasn't they saying it was kind of saying this is cool.
Because a lot of you can get a lot of people that are hard done by and they used to do it back in the day and now they resent you because you do it and they don't do it anymore and they've got an old. And it's a classic, you know, it's a classic. You didn't stop skating because you got old. You got old.
So you stopped skating. You know what I'm saying? Exactly. That's it.
Some people were looking at it from the wrong angle and didn't obviously have the passion to continue. Exactly. And people allowed to have this time off. I don't mind seeing someone that, you know, been skating for 10 years and they get back on their board and they're loving it.
I don't mind someone just wanting to cruise about on the board. I just know firsthand what skateboarding can do just just on a for a physicality point of view. You know, I love sports and I love doing something that's physical and skateboards that next step up, you know, I mean, because there's danger involved, which is you're rolling the dice with skating, which is what you don't get in a lot of other sports. We do get a lot of sports, but skating in particular, obviously you're on your own, but from a mental point of view, skateboarding just does wonders, doesn't it?
We know that firsthand that it can just, you just go out on your board, never roll, you forget all your fucking troubles and any problems you've got going on. When you're rolling about in that bit of wood mate, you're just floating, you're floating through time, you're floating through space and it's just, you're having a good time. Yeah, 100%. Yeah.
Anything like that. As soon as you skateboard, it all ceases to exist, but you're having fun then and then in that moment, whatever you're doing, just pushing, rolling around or having a full blown sesh. Yeah, it's funny how, you know, general tricks might not really even tickle the mind too much. You just got to put your feet in the right place and do it and then there's some things that you got to channel in and throw everything else out your mind but this trick.
Now, it's a shame that John is not on the show today, because I wanted to talk to him about GTA V. So if the listeners don't know, I'm more of a retro game, I mean, I was into my snares, the whole reason why Turbo Sports Radio is called Turbo Sports Radio is because of Street Fighter 2 Turbo, you know, one of my favourite games of all time. So I was more into the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, obviously at the Playstations, all of them as well, but I didn't get the PS4 and GTA V because I knew it was going to fucking, it was going to get involved in my life a little bit too much, it was going to be spending too much time playing it. So I literally, when it first came out, I was like, I don't need it.
I got a platinum award on GTA IV, so that's the PlayStation award if you don't know, you've pretty much done everything. You shoot all the fucking pigeons in the world, mean your bullshit things that you should not be doing, you should be doing a lot more productive things of your time. But anyway, long story short, I'm borrowing John O's PS4, I got GTA V for it, mate. So I've been going through it, I'm about halfway through now, but I wanted to just speak to your boys about it because obviously it's set in LA and you've got the Venice Beach spot in the British Beach skate park, you've even got half pipes knocking about the city and everything, there's no skateboards, but you can get on a BMX.
So I've been hitting a few tricks on the BMX and the half pipes on GTA V and also if you can get a car in there mate as well mate, you can do some front side airs with a Porsche. So I haven't played the game, but I haven't been able to have a full play by myself. Is the Venice park kind of to scale the Venice Beach skate park? Good question mate, very good question.
It's close. It's not identical, which is a bit of a shame because there's so much shit in the actual game that is so close to real life scale. Like for example, for example, the Santa Monica triple set, right? You know what I'm talking about?
But every fucker under the sun's been down. That is bang on. I'm talking bang on triple set, not two stairs, it's three stairs, you've got the wooden little roll up ramp beforehand, it's got the bar that's at the bottom of it. You know what I mean?
It's got everything. I've been there, I've got a picture of me there as well. It's very, very close, very, very close. They're missing a few little obstacles and shit like that mate.
They've got a couple of bowls in there, they've got a couple of little bits of rampage, but it's not quite right. But yeah, it's just one of those things that it was just nice when you don't have to play skate every day or Tony Hawk's and I can still just, they're still a half pipe or a little mini ramp or something about and if I'm just smashing someone's window in and pulled them out and kicked them to the curb, stole their car, see a little mini, I've got to sit the car in there, you know, even if it is a nice little portion on the level or Lamborghini Diablo or something, I'm gonna have to try and step on and get a little frontside air with a little slash grind, you know what I mean mate? Because on the, oh yeah, of course. Just just put, you know, hammer it down, get a wheel spin in the bottom, just get yourself going, hammer yourself upside down, hit that R1 and turn and just try and get a little backside lip slide, a backside disaster on that, on that half pipe.
It was good, it was nice. It did really nice. Yeah, it would be rude not to do and hit the fakie, you know what I mean? It's well mate, if you can try and get something and hit that reverse and pull that around as well, you know, that feels good too.
Yeah, nice, so that's, yeah, that's what, that's kind of like I get sidetracked when I'm obviously between, between missions mate, I obviously gchase one of those games that you could just play forever, just driving around smashing shit up and, you know, shotgun and people in the face. But the side missions are just going round, my own side missions are going round and finding skate spots, the jumps, I mean the jumps are one of my favourite things on there as well mate, you know, just, I up a jump, but you find some jumps mate that aren't even in the list, I found a fakie decent jump here and it's not even on a list, but yeah, yeah, the jumps, especially on a motorbike where you can do like a double back lip or something is yeah, I was thinking about the motocross sort of jumps there when you'd, I'd always, I'd always be trying to jump off the road in the motorbike somewhere. But the problem is now mate on gch5, I'd say problem, you die if you, if you don't, you know, I mean, if you just jump off a build on a bike, you would just die. Yeah, right.
You don't, you don't like the game, gch. Yeah, like gch3 or gch4, you could, yeah, you could spawn a bike at the top of the Empire State building and then just fucking throw that off. Yeah, exactly, yeah, right out. Now, it's like, I was going down this, I was getting chased by, I thought four stars getting chased by the police on a motorbike and I was fucking hauling ass down his mountain and kind of hitting like the peaks of mountains and the kind of like the valleys, you know, going off, you kind of like an A frame sort of jump, you know, ramp to ramp sort of shit.
But if you hit one too big, kind of like in Snowboard, you know, real life Snowboard and when you miss when you clear something too far, you don't matter if you land in flat, you'll, you go down and it's over. Yeah. And it's the same thing with a bike though, but if you clear them, you land your bike just explode and you die. So it's a bit frustrating.
So you've got to slow down a little bit, you can't just throw it down and hold down R2, but yeah, it's been pretty fun. It's been pretty fun. Nice. Yeah, it sounds good.
