He was a radio broadcaster, author and speaker who became one of the pioneering voices of modern personal development. And in 1956, he recorded a spoken-word message called The Strangest Secret. The idea behind it was simple: we become what we think about. That recording became enormously successful, and Nightingale went on to spend decades teaching ideas around success, purpose, attitude, service, goal-setting and personal responsibility.
