58. Fire: When God Meets You in the Heat

from Honey for Your Heart with Bryson Kessler

Some seasons feel like sand. Others feel like fire.   In this episode of Layered in Grace, we talk about what happens when life turns up the heat — when the pressure is real, the grief is layered, and the questions feel heavy.   Using the image of pinecones that only open in fire, we explore this truth: Sometimes the heat isn't destroying you. It's unlocking something.   Drawing from: Daniel 3 (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace) Isaiah 43 ("When you walk through the fire…") James 1 (testing produces perseverance) The life of Job — honest anger and grief before God We unpack what fire seasons reveal — about our faith, our grief, and our marriages. This episode gently explores: Fire is not always punishment — sometimes it is formation. God does not always remove the heat — but He steps into it. Grief has two flames: sadness and anger — and both are biblical. Righteous anger is not weakness. Tears are not failure. Marriage in hard seasons requires layered grace, not silent resentment. We also ask the harder questions: What is this fire exposing in me? Where am I suppressing grief instead of bringing it to God? Am I expecting my spouse to carry what only Christ can carry? What if the fire is opening something eternal? The miracle of the furnace was not the absence of flames. It was the presence of the Fourth Man. If you are in a fire season right now, this episode is a reminder: You are not being consumed. You are being formed.   And you are not alone in the heat. Scriptures Referenced Daniel 3 Isaiah 43:2 James 1:2–4 Job 13:3 Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 Colossians 3:13 Reflection Questions Where do I feel the heat in my life right now? Am I interpreting this season as punishment — or invitation? Which side of grief do I suppress — anger or sadness? Have I brought my honest questions to God — or kept them distant? What might this fire be opening in me? As we continue this Layered in Grace journey, remember: Fire does not mean abandonment. Sometimes it means God is nearer than ever. You are seen. You are known. You are deeply loved.   This episode's companion resources: Fill-In-The-Blank Listening Guide Full Episode Study Guide Small Group Discussion Guide 7 Day Companion Scripture Guide
