58 - The Misogyny in Music and What It Taught Us About Sex
from Your Unapologetic Life - Obsessed with Body Confidence and Great Sex · host Morgan Barkus
I was practicing for my exotic dance workshop, listening to an old playlist, and suddenly thought, "Wow. So much of the music I grew up on is wildly misogynistic." And yet, it shaped how I learned about sex, desire, and my role in it more than movies or porn ever did. From romantic, woman-centered lyrics like Hey Lover to songs that openly dismiss women’s pleasure, music taught a lot of us to perform, serve, and stay quiet about what we actually want.In this episode, I unpack how misogyny in music subtly conditions women to prioritize men’s pleasure over their own, why so many of us learned to be “good at sex” without enjoying it, and how becoming conscious of what you consume can radically change how you experience your body, desire, and sexuality. This is about awareness, not shame. And reclaiming your pleasure on your terms. If this episode made you think, feel, or say “holy shit, that’s me,” please follow the show, rate, review, and share it with another woman. It helps more than you know and brings more women into these conversations that actually matter. If you want more of this energy in your life, come find me.
