588. Carol McGiffin - Loose Women Hid My Backstage Fight With This TV Star

from heretics. · host Andrew Gold

Carol McGiffin joins Heretics for a brutally honest, no-holds-barred conversation about why she really left Loose Women and what was happening behind the scenes at one of daytime TV’s biggest shows. From explosive rows in the dressing room to being repeatedly censored by ITV, Carol explains how the atmosphere shifted as the show – and the wider industry – became more rigid, risk-averse and, in her words, “woke”. Carol opens up about being “forced out”, the pressure to conform on issues like trans debates and women’s sport, and why she believes presenters are now expected to say one thing on TV while thinking another in private. Beyond Loose Women, we get into her clashes with Carol Vorderman over the moon landings and climate change, what she really thinks about Piers Morgan, memories from Celebrity Big Brother, Rylan and immigration, modern feminism, Kate Garraway’s situation with Derek, and why she believes TV has lost its sense of humour and honesty. If you’ve ever suspected that mainstream TV is more scripted, controlled and performative than it looks – this episode will confirm your suspicions. 👉 Watch to the end for Carol’s take on climate debates, Russia, “heretics” she admires, and why she thinks some opinions are now completely off-limits on British television. #CarolMcGiffin #LooseWomen #HereticsPodcast  Join the 30k heretics on my mailing list: https://andrewgoldheretics.com  Check out my new documentary channel: https://youtube.com/@andrewgoldinvestigates  Andrew on X: https://twitter.com/andrewgold_ok   Insta: https://www.instagram.com/andrewgold_ok Heretics YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@andrewgoldheretics Chapters: 0:00 Carol McGiffin Highlights 1:30 Why Carol McGiffin Left Loose Women 5:00 What The Show Was Like At First 7:15 Moon Landing Carol Vorderman Argument 9:00 Going to the Pub - Not Allowed 11:30 Celebrity Big Brother 14:30 Carol Vorderman Patronising & Climate Change 16:30 Carol Attacks Piers Morgan! 19:20 Kate Garraway’s Husband Derek 21:30 Would Loose Women Discuss Trans? 24:15 What Rylan Said About Immigration 25:30 The Mafia Bringing Boats Across 28:00 When Carol Mentioned Trump on Loose Women 31:00 Tension on the Set! 33:30 Truth About Russia? 34:30 Ross Kemp 37:30 We Should NOT Give Up Seats For Pregnant Women 40:30 Loose Women Weren’t Allowed To Show Arms! 44:30 Is Carol McGiffin Allowed On TV Now? 46:00 The Problem With Modern Feminism? 49:30 Climate Debate 55:30 A Heretic Carol McGiffin Admires Learn more about your ad choices. Young Heretics Spencer Klavan The classical education you never knew you were missing. Join scholar and writer Spencer Klavan on a tour through the great works of the West. In a world gone mad, we're not alone: the great men and women who went before us have wisdom to guide us. With their help, we can recover truth, beauty, and the stuff that matters. Heretics G.K. Chesterton "Heretics," a series of essays by Gilbert Keith Chesterton. First published in 1905. Read by David "Grizzly" Smith.Chesterton had a sense of humor, had a sense of drama, and had sense. He was a man of strong opinions, and quite willing to argue vehemently for his own opinions, even with his friends -- and they remained his friends -- like George Bernard Shaw and Rudyard Kipling. Seems to me that's hard to find anymore. He wrote prolifically. He wrote humor. He wrote mystery novels, the Father Brown mysteries in particular. But he also wrote his opinions, his religious opinions and his opinions about religion. "Heretics" is a book about religion and politics, theory and fact, morals and efficiency. What I most admire about "Heretics," written a bit over a century ago, is that his arguments are exceptional, and that so many of them are still quite recognizably true. Then come two works attributed to Hippolytus and a treatise addressed to Tatian arguing, without using Scripture, for the existence of the soul. Dionysius of Alexandria comments on the authorship of the book of Revelation and Alexander, archbishop of Alexandria excommunicates Arius . What remains of "a discourse on the Divine Nature and the Incarnation, against the heretics Beron and Helix" is followed by several exegetical works by Dionysius of Alexandria and the beginning of a treatise of the resurrection usually attributed to Justin Martyr. "Discourse on all the Saints" concerns martyrs and the fragments of Lactantius were written by the adviser of Constantine, the first Christian Romans emperor. A survey of Christian novels follows .
