#59 Element All Stars

I've run to me. So I know we're picking five and I do have five in this 13, but it kind of I whittled it down to 13 men. That's how difficult it was at about 40. So yeah, very, very hard.

Yeah, so many people to choose from and different eras of skaters as well. Yeah, exactly. You know, elements we go for so long since 92 says on all the boards now. Yeah, it's a difficult one.

Anyway, Jon, do you want to step up to the plate mate? You want to hit the home run first? Yeah, so it's it's going to be one I'm sure all of us have on our list and it's bam. Yeah, I'm going to let you know, bam is on my list as well.

He definitely makes the grade. How could you not have an element all stars team without the man himself, bam, I'm a jira. Come on. Yeah, you know me boys, I like my board sales.

So I've got to be in there for that alone. Let's not take away from this gate. You're obviously transiting skater heavy hitter, you know, doing a sketchy gnarly shit. No one else is doing entertaining the crowd.

Good for a demo. You've got to have them in there, but those board sales, you're going to make a lot of money. I've been having that bam all stars there. So he's definitely on the squad for me.

You need to rely on these boards sales. We're going to be bringing people out of retirement. You've got to pay them somehow. Yeah, that is.

Yeah. I mean, that could change a couple of my votes here, but we're going to take them in the prime. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, they're prime.

I'm going to have to pick Nigel Houston. He's going to be winning all the trophies. Come on. Yeah, that's a fair shout.

Jon, you got Nigel on your list? Like, well, Ted, you've got to win those trophies and no one does it like Nigel does. Yeah, Nigel's the king of competition skateboarding. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but he arguably is one of the best skaters of all time.

He's on my list and well deserving, I think. So yeah, turning to a good squad here. You know, you've got Bam, obviously, board sales. Nigel's going to give us some board sales as well there.

You know what I mean? He will give us some board sales. I know he's my mate, but he'll definitely still give us some board sales. Yeah, if you right.

So I step up with my first pick. Let's hear it. Well, this motherfucker is a skater of the year. From 2003, we've got Mr.

Mark Appleyard. You can't have an all stars without element. I know he's is probably a result of someone else, but style alone. You've got to have him.

Yeah, exactly. So I take it on your list, Jon. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

Well, I got Mr. Appleyard on my list. He's got one of those textbook trades ever then in the nicest way, back in such a clean skater. Yeah, Appleyard in the flip days, like Jon said, that was when he was obviously certified motherfucker, but he's still clean now with that glow party released not too long ago, you know, he's killing it.

He's still got such a good style. Just he's just he's the full package. You would have him if you could put him on your board brand. You do it when you're turbo out of board brand.

We try and try and sway Appleyard over when you probably leave because I've announced his leave now and so we're getting now. Right. The next up to tick all boxes. My next pick is going to be Bucky Lassic.

And I'm guessing from the silence. He's not on any of yours. No, he's not. He's not even on my page here, Jon.

I'm afraid, but I understand why you picked him. Makes sense when you say, you know, we might need a work guy. I respect you put a guy on the team, Jon, or trying to put a work guy on the team. But yeah, I have not picked Bucky Lassic.

I think he's for me and I, you know, again, for your era, you probably did see him as a element. Okay. I saw him as a birdhouse skater. So we're going to do a birdhouse all stars.

If you're on, it probably make that great, but I'm not sticking on the element. Also, I've got too many, I've got too many old boys in 2001 that are just too good. So fair enough. Yeah.

Got this guy here. He was higher up the list. Really hope I'm one of you guys. I've got another list because he's one of the greats.

Musker. No. He was, but then I've thought about, I took him off. I thought about it.

And I know he's an icon, but you don't get points for holding a boombox. Oh, geez. Come on now. I mean, it's me, you know, saying that strong.

You know, he hasn't made the great for me. He's on my third list. He's on my 13 man list. He's got an asterisk next to him, which the code that I've got, well, the code I was working to is if you're an asterisk next to name, you're in the squad and if you're an ethnics, you're a favorite of mine.

But there was more than five asterisks on this list. So just because you got one doesn't mean you're special at all. So unfortunately, must again, kind of like the same thing for Bucky, I feel that he's, you know, short East was his board brand for me. Even though I think he was on there for a long, I think Chad was on the element for a long time.

But for me, I feel like, you know, we're doing a short East all-stars. I get him on there, but he didn't make the grade for the element board company for me. No, fair enough. Fair enough.

Who's next to Northern? I'm going to have to pick. Third pick is going to be Colt Cannon. Now, for me, Colt Cannon is a lot of listeners might not have heard of Colt Cannon, if you haven't, shame on you.

Google him now quickly. Go on to YouTube, type in Colt Cannon and watch how good this motherfucker is kick with it. And watch just how good he was back in the day. I think he had a bit of an early injury.

So obviously his career didn't kind of skyrocket to where it should have done. But for me, he got back me up boys. Colt Cannon was a fucking heavy hitter back in the day. And probably could have been a skate over the year.

Yeah, he's definitely, I think he's definitely of an era. And that era was before me. And he's not on my list. But I can appreciate why he would be on yours.

Yeah, he's just so fucking good. He's kind of like a similar kind of to Apple Yard, the tricks that he could do. But just add a little bit more to him. You know what I mean?

Maybe not as clean as Apple Yard, but he just had that kind of all-round pro fucking status that he could take into a demo. He's going to be the king of the demo, basically. That's what I'm saying. Yeah.

But obviously I can tell that your boys ain't got a kind of an e-list, have you? No, he's not. I'm afraid. He's on my side, you know, realistically.

Kind of when I think about Colt, I do think of element. And I also think of Tasha as well. But there's just so many other good names to put on here. Like this couldn't bring him into the top.

He was a seventh name down. But he doesn't have an asterisk or an F for favorite next to his name. So unfortunately, Mr. Westgate doesn't make my old star squad.

But a very good pick mate. If he does get in, I won't be pissed off, but I don't think he's going to make the grade. Will? I've got him lower down on my list, but he's not in the top five.

But a fucking good pick. You know what I mean? There is a lot. We could have had two or three top 10s.

Top fives here. But yeah, he's not on my list. Yeah. Well, there you go, Jonny.

No, I was kind of thinking that Jonny might say this. So I've got Evan Smith here. Nice. Very, very educated pick there.

Maybe if Evan had a skate all year to him, he might get in there. Because obviously he's been around a block. He's been around for a long time. I'm sure his board sales are fucking pretty high up.

I'm sure he's up there. He's probably been carrying an element for a long time. Obviously not with him anymore. Everyone's left apart from Jacko.

Yeah, he didn't make the grade for me. Yeah, he's not on mine either. He didn't even really make... He wasn't even temporary on my list.

And that's harsh on him. That is harsh. That is harsh. That's how it is with all stars.

We can't... We're doing our job. We're doing our best here. We've got a pick that's right for the new company, Element All Stars.

It's a new company that we're creating. If Evan... I mean, it's strong and it is strong. If you can pick Evan Smith and not put him in your team.

But there you go. Maybe if we were doing a DC one, he might say that. Yeah, I didn't know there's a lot of DCs here. That's going to be a number harder.

I don't think he would make the grade at all. If you haven't done a backside tell side at Love Park, you don't get on the DC team. So maybe you'll have to do the DC one soon enough. At the moment, we were obviously going to have to whittle this down.

I'm going to place two place up for grabs. Who we got? We are Bama Niger. That's decent.

Is it me to go next? Is it me to throw out another...? Your last one, mate. Right.

There's a few names here that I'd like to throw out. A lot of names that have influenced me. But I would say the name that I think deserves it more than anyone else is Jeremy Ray. Jeremy Ray is such a good skater.

His adios shoes are fucking sick. They're all good back in the day. He was just power. He's an icon.

Maybe he didn't get caught at the fame and fortunes that a lot of skaters did get back in his day. But who's doing that tarryly? And to this day, that is still insane. Was that the cover of Frasier?

Yeah. Showing me a bit of cover. Just the shock factor of that sort of trick. Obviously there was Rowley back in the day doing a huge shipping container.

Even though people these days do nuts, rails and gaps. But I still don't think the shock factor is quite the same. As going back and no one's even paying homage to it. No one's upping it.

The thing is about that you die if you fuck up on that. It's not like pissing about or doing something like a little goofy where you can still hold on to something. He has jumped off one fucking huge water tower or whatever it is. One platform high up in the sky to another one.

I'm sure I've heard stories where I think it might be Jeremy Ray saying it himself. There was pebbles or stones up there as well. It weren't no easy running for him. He must have been up there with his board or a broom or something sweeping that shit away.

There was no moped up there to send him over. That was pure power pushing. Ridiculous. He's my pick.

Obviously he's not on your boys list. What you say to Jeremy Ray? Was he an influence to you? I think it's another one that had been and gone by the time I came around.

But I can appreciate Ellen's sense why he deserves to be on an all-stars list. Where were you saying to Jay? He wasn't on my five. I wanted to put him, if I had mentioned him, I was going to put him as my honorable mention for the reasons we spoke about as soon as we knew he was doing the Ellen team.

I did think about Jeremy Ray pretty much straight away. Just the power behind that guy I think would hold his name high in my mind. How much of a fucking powerhouse he is to stand out. And how fucked up his kick flip is.

You see his foot placement? I'm sure the heel flip is a kick flip. He puts his toe over the board. Like he's going to heel flip it.

I'm not sure if I've attempted to do that because I don't want to rip my fucking ankle off. Maybe that's because of the 775 days and I have a big feat. It just has to go there. That's not a bad point actually mate.

I've never actually thought about that. That could be it. I tell you what, I have tried it. I've watched this nine times where he talks about his foot position.

I tell you what, if you try it, you get the most parked kick flip but it is really fucking slow. It only works if you're going the fucking mile. It's good if you're trying to send out a kick or something. But obviously, Gemma Ray ain't doing no halfway pushes.

He's going for whatever he's doing. So if you want to get a huge big pot slow long ass kick flip, that's how you're fucking getting it in his style anyway. Yeah, no, I'll get you. He's got no jab foot as he's.

Every push is a power push. He's throwing down his kick flip as well. It's going to be a big boy kick flip. You know, big boy fucking big boy push.

So yeah, no, I'll get you. So are we going to, let's go round the, let's go round the, again, let's try and put some other, bring some other names up if you want to bring some other names up. You don't have to stick to your guns and try and get other people, you know, Jonna, you don't have to, for example, you don't have to get Westgate on. You can try and get Westgate on or you can bring some other names to the file.

Complete up to you. But we'll go around again. So if you want to try and get Westgate on, lay it down thick and try and get them on to me and we'll, if not, bring someone else, bring someone else up and try and convince us to stick them on. Well, that is what my five have been sent now.

So if we're going to stick to our five, between Westgate and Bucky, I would have to push more for Brandon Westgate, I think. Just because it'll be similar to you with your four ones and everything with Brandon Westgate, the first proper skate DVD that I got, that wasn't some shit free one and that got bundled in. It was the America Stagold and he had the first part in that. So seeing those beautiful trade flips, the big power pushes.

Yep. And the like early pops out of rails, everything like that, I do think he deserves to be on the element or stance. He's still currently on element. He's one of the like four people.

That's still on element and is relevant. Yeah. No, I hear like he isn't going to, the problem I've got with Westgate, even though he made my list, is I've got too many favourites to kind of give him away into the squad. I want to, I want to use all my boys onto the squad.

So if I can, I'm going to, I won't be offended if Westgate gets on. We're worth a declare and say stick Westgate on, stick Westgate, I'll still be happy. You know what I mean? He's got position on the squad.

He's probably one of the best skates knocking about. So it isn't, no problem is it having Westgate on the squad, but I ain't going to, I ain't throwing my boats out of Westgate yet, Johnny. Oh, no. Oh, it's a tricky one.

Well, I got, I think really who do we want? We've got two spaces, right? Exactly. Well, who do I think I want on more?

Westgate or Jeremy Ray? I suppose that's how it goes at the moment, isn't it? You've got Jeremy Ray. Johnny's got a Westgate.

I wanted to one-able mention Jeremy Ray and I crossed out West, or I have a Westgate in, in my extras. So just, just, just, just to make this clear, are we going to, those two? Should we, because we obviously got two picks, right? And they were in the original five that are kind of in competition.

Obviously, they could, you know, they could slip and both on there and, you know, everyone's going to be happy. I'm not too sure about that, but there's, shall we, shall we, those two are boys up against each other? Because there's still some names on my 30-man squad here that I'd like to just throw out there, or maybe we'll throw out there now, you know, just, just slip into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, into the, how about, yeah, how about you throw out yours and then me and John O can have a little think and then we can have a little kind of vote off for the next two spots after we've got some boys in. Okay, all right, yeah, I like the sound of that.

So, and also, mate, there's two, there's two spots. You did throw Chad Muskerel, didn't you? I throw Muskerel. Yeah, so exactly.

So if we've got two places to fill, I'm not against but a Muskerel in there, but I'm just going to throw some of these boys out there. So I've got Kenny Hughes, who's got an F for favorite next to his name. Now, if you don't know Kenny Hughes, his frontside tail slide was the fucking best frontside tail side going for a very long time. He was the king of it, anything.

Bigger's hub, his biggest rails, front tail to fakey or wigs, whatever you want. He was the king. So Kenny Hughes is an F for me, on L for a long time as well, so deserves it. Great, great, good.

But touchdown end is fucking so good. Such an underrated skater. You see some of it, you go back and watch some of the element videos with what Tosh can do. Everyone thought he was a surphy motherfucker who just slipped a couple of little cheeky tricks down again.

He threw down fucking big shit. He threw down huge rails, huge daresets, really underrated. And he taught me the frontside flip. The fucking, you know, the kind of power slid frontside flip.

He taught me that. I think it was from the former, as you know, 51. Touchdown's a great skater. How many times this episode have you mentioned for one one?

Yeah, it depends on what we recorded or the one we recorded. Right, now next on my list, again, probably your boys ain't going to give a fuck about, is Reese Forbes. Now, Reese Forbes, we have mentioned him before on the podcast. He was basically element, sorry, when Danny Wayne Wright won his big Oli contest.

That was designed for Reese Forbes to win. That's why it's got a big element logo on it. Because they thought the Reese Forbes is going to get the world record for Yolly. They're going to get a picture of the element logo and their skater doing it.

But no, Mr. Wayne Wright comes in and wins it from the old UK. So, yeah, Reese Forbes, such a power skater. And he just looked good in fucking in nights.

He's wearing nights back in the day when no one was. Yeah, I like Reese Forbes. One more. We've got Bill Pepper.

Now, again, he was, I think he might have been on element since day one. And I like the stories about me. He was pretty tacky. He got shit done.

But I think he got kicked out of Australia on one trip because he was fucking out of control. We'll be on the news. So I like him for that. And I think Thrasher named him as the most annoying skater.

And he went to Thrasher HQ and had a fight with Phelps. Really? Legit. Yeah.

So that's why Bill Pepper getting on the squad. Oh, sorry. And there's one more. There's one more that we haven't declared.

And it's a skateboard year. It's Mason Silver, which he has to be discussed. He has to be put into it. He is a skateboard year.

I actually had Mason Silver first instead of Evan Smith. And I crossed them out for Evan. But yes, that's fair. That's fair.

Undeniable. Great. At this point, I know it's like at the prime, but I feel like you'd still take Tosh Town and over Mason Silver, wouldn't you? Yeah.

If we do an element all-star, Mason isn't getting on element. It has to be someone like Tosh, Jeremy Ray, someone wall like that. Let's throw down them with these last two places. So I've thrown Jeremy Ray in there.

We always got Chad Musker. You've got Westgate. Out with those three. Obviously we've got these other names as well.

Out of those three. Do you think two of them can get in there? Or does a Tosh Town end, does a Kenny Hughes, does a Colt Cannon? Can they overtake those other boys?

Or are we saying that these are the three other boys competing for the last two spots? Well, the past rules really, it should be between Jeremy, Westgate and Musker. But element is so big. Maybe we can be a bit unorthodox.

And I would say, Jeremy Ray in, and we'll go for one of these extra ones. If you say, Jeremy, I'm taking it mate. Let's let him in there. But then that's saying that Westgate and Musker are going up against each other for the last spot, which is nice.

I mean, I'm into that. But then we can't have Tosh Town in there. And I know obviously Tosh probably at the same level as a lot of these old boys. But maybe years.

But are we going for that? Are we going to head to head with those old boys? What are you saying? Were you sticking to Jeremy Ray in there?

Or are you still want to get Musker in there on that fourth spot rather than the fifth? I'm happy to put the old Jeremy Ray in there. I love a bit of Tosh. But I'm saying if Tosh deserves to be in Musker definitely deserves to be in.

Because he hit just his big rails. Maybe even bigger. You know what I'm saying? Musker's just as element to me as part of his life.

Tosh, straight away as soon as I think of element, Tosh is there. Ripping big feebles down fucking 10 plus their sets. It's breaking his leg and CKY skating all of it. Musker's up there with me as well.

But I can settle on the rate. You know what I'm saying? Jeremy Ray, definitely happy with him on the spot. So John, obviously if I picked him, we'll say in it.

Are you happy with him on there as well? We get a three-man vote to get Jeremy Ray in there? Yeah, I'm happy with Jeremy Ray. OK, so Jeremy Ray, four-man squats.

At the moment we have Mark Appleyard, Bam. We have Noiger and Jeremy Ray. So we've got a fifth spot here. Obviously we can pick a couple of subs.

Maybe I have one sub each on this episode. Because this is very, very difficult. Even though if you're a sub year a sub and we know you didn't make it really. We'll give you a little place in the team.

So fifth spot. So we've got Chad Musker up there. We've got Brandon Westgate up there. We've got Tosh Town end.

And that's probably it who's actually in contention. Don't you reckon? Obviously Tosch is an outside bet. But I keep saying it because he's element more than most people.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. I think if you ask anyone, like top element taters, or name me, I don't know, ten element taters, Tosch is always going to be on there. Should we fuck Tosh off, right?

Play original rules, original star rules, and let's put, and obviously Evan's in there as well. We're playing original rules. Evan Smith, are we saying that Chad and Matt, sorry, Chad and Westgate are going to eliminate Smith? Are they above him?

Because that's a hard call as well. We're talking about an all-star element squad. It's very hard not to stick Evan Smith in there. If I'm going to look at all of this, and I'm going to break it up obviously from, you know, switch now.

This is like Will and your pick. And I can kind of agree with one of them. I'm saying I'd probably like to see Chad Musker on there because he is a fucking absolute legend. And it's one of those things that if you can pick him on it, if you can get him into a squad, why wouldn't you get him into a squad?

So I'm just going to stick. I'm going to put my allegiance there and I'm going to say Chad is what I'd like to have in this squad. Now, I hear you. I hear what you're saying.

And I'm almost tempted to agree with you. But we do already have one icon on the team. You're using the word icon as saying something, someone isn't that good at skating, but they people know who they are. Therefore, you can have them on there as a sympathy vote.

Is that what you're using it as in like they are actually fucking quality? Because I know we're coming from this, John. You're saying that Chad says that or whatever. But Brandon Westgate.

That's how this is how this is what you're going for here. But I just I don't think it's comparable. Chad Musker and Brandon Westgate. Has Brandon Westgate ever been on Tony Hawk Pro Skate again?

You know what I mean? Was he in Skate 3? Might have been? No.

Yeah. Is he in Skate your XL? He's in Skate your XL. Yeah.

Well done to him. I just don't. John, come on now. We're talking about Chad Musker here.

John Musker is like... John, surely... I'll get... Yeah, go on.

Obviously, you're a little bit younger than me and Ryan. But this is my element. Surely that was your time, right? Was that for elementality?

Yeah. One of those two would have probably been a quite a big video for your time. Obviously, Nigel coming through with a good young part. But Musker in that had quite a good part for his age at the time, I thought.

And that really kind of resonated with me as probably like a young teenager already knowing what Musker did. Because I kind of was catching on a tail end of that when I first started skating. So that kind of really kind of had Musker in the element seen in my head, if you know what I mean? He wasn't a short, he's a logo anymore.

And maybe for you was he kind of old Musker element? Or not? I don't know. I'm trying to...

Yeah. All right. I think we're going to have to put Musker on. Mate, look, look, look, look, John, I'll allow Westgate to be a sub.

He can be our number one sub. That's fair in it. But I think Chad, you know, Chad, Chad, Chad outweighs fucking Westgate. And that's just how it is.

Come on now. Yeah, he does. He does. So you want Westgate as an award sub, yeah?

Yeah, good one. Otherwise, it'd almost be like, you know, putting Garrett Hiller team instead of fucking Jamie Thomas or something. Yeah, who the fuck would do that? Yeah.

That's a pretty heavy fucking duty squad. That is a decent squad. That is a pretty tough squad right there. Pretty tough squad.

So let's get our subs in, mate. Obviously Westgate's your sub there, John. Yeah. Will, if you could have one sub to stick in there, you stick in with Evan Smith.

Would you like to see him on the bench if we needed to tag him in? If we needed a little bit of a, you know, a long dangly motherfucker to give us a three-point now? Yeah. I'll take an Evan as a, put him on the bench.

Yeah. And even though I did vote for Cole, I think let's just stick Toss because it will look good. It will look good on the bench, honey. Not me.
