Today we welcome Taiaiake Alfred—Kanien’kehá:ka author, educator, and activist known for influencing indigenous political thought. A former U.S. Marine turned scholar, Alfred founded the Indigenous Governance Program at UVic and has mentored leaders in sovereignty and resurgence for over two decades.His books Peace, Power, Righteousness, Wasáse, and It’s All About the Land challenge colonial systems and call for a return to Indigenous traditions. Taiaiake is now working in Kahnawà:ke on governance, where he is focused on helping to remove his nation from the Indian Act on their terms.
