from Podcasts by You42 · host You42 Music

On the latest episode of 6 Feet of Separation, your hosts sit down with comic book creator, podcaster and educator Shawn Crystal. Shawn tells us what made him change his mind from wanting to be an animator when he grew up to wanting to create comics and how he landed his first job working for DC Comics in grad school. He also tells us how he did not find success in the comic book world after that for another 10 years. Since then, he’s found himself working for both DC and Marvel Comics, creating for Batman, Deadpool, The X-Men and many others, proving that it’s not always about the destination, but more so about the journey. Listen as he talks about his most recent project, Inkpulp Instruction, and how Covid has impacted his art, creativity and passions.

The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
