Welcome to Turbo Sports Radio issue number six. Six already, Johnny. Six already. You say it like it's?

It's pretty good, pretty good going I think. We're not the most productive people in terms of the show, and I think getting six out is pretty decent. Yeah, it took us like a year to even get a side. But this episode, special guest.

We like our style, but special guest. Introduce yourself. Ah, it's me. Well, as I know, my name is Will Hickey.

You're joining the show today. Awesome Oxford skater here. Actually, the next skater to be on the Oxford Skateco's team. So, yeah, there you go.

That's it. So, yeah, this week, what we're going to do, what we're talking about this week? We are talking about jumping ship. Jumping ship, so pros, changing their sponsors.

For the better or for the worse. Yeah, and have a little, okay. Discussion. Yeah, exactly.

See, now at this point we'd say, if you had an opinion of someone, you wanted to call in, you could, but you can't. So, yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Let's, who should we start with then? Should we start with, let's go back to like the away days.

Away days. Remember what happened there? Will with the two pros at kind of jump ship at that time? Yeah, briefly.

So, we had day one and Mark Johnson. Yeah, that was a late. Big names. Yeah, big names, but a late.

What was it like on the day? Well, on the premiere in LA, that's when those two got announced. And then there was a whole thing with Mark Johnson. Yeah.

Where he was supposedly said he wasn't joining. And Mike, I was like, you know what, there was that. But yeah, so yeah, Mike Johnson's on that. Yeah, so we're kind of like, from around that point, I think there was a few kind of like, kind of starting a little bit of a butterfly for everybody.

You know, there's a lot of jumping ship, if we will. Yeah, I don't know. Is there more today than it was like back in the day, like, like, go back 10 years? Is there more like jumping around or is there less?

I don't really know. I'd say there's more jumping about. Yeah. Last, past handful of years.

Yeah. I mean, you've got the big time players in there. So there's a fair bit more shoe money running around. Yeah, it is really all shoe based.

People seem to be a bit happier with like their board ones. So they stay there longer. But yeah, lately it's the shoes. Let's go to the most recent one.

Let's just fast forwarding, but go to the client taker. That's what I was quite shocked with. Yeah. Have you seen that?

Who did you go to? He was on New Balance. Okay. I think I actually heard something about that.

Quite a few people have went to New Balance, so I think they're trying to pay back. They might be going to do more things. They're a good team. You know, it's like at the helm of that as well.

He's got a lot of creative control. So if he's given you the phone call. Yeah, I mean, he's excited to phone call. Yeah, exactly.

Do you turn it down? But you've got Reynolds in here. Yeah, you've got to accept that phone call then. So, you've got to be ready.

You've got to be ready. I suppose Reynolds isn't like the top, isn't the boss of America? No, it's, yeah. So you're calling it Templeton?

Yeah. Is that any easier? Yeah. So it's probably a really difficult thing to do for something for anyway.

Yeah. Some people don't do that. Some people don't even like, well, they'll get someone else to do it for them. Yeah.

You just take it off the list or whatever. Instagram name or something. That's a real, real fly way of announcing it, wouldn't it? It's like, you're supposed to go to the taker page and see how you're doing.

And you're not even listed. It's like, I think we need to give them a phone call. That's what I said about the nightclub of Pete Rogers. He didn't really want to say he was after.

He was spraying his deck. Yeah. He just came in and said, yeah. Yeah.

And then someone, Colin McKay or someone, Spectra was like, yeah, just check the police. Yeah, but it's a glamby on there. He's like, well, kind of forced into saying these are even. They look quite cool.

What was the trick he did for his little intro? What? Yeah. Oh, so he did a triflob of a bin and a back free over the bin.

What was the most good about Taylor? I think he said Granite. Yeah. But it was Granite last.

That was the most recent one. Yeah, it's not Granite Taylor at all. It's Brandon Westgate. Yeah.

Yeah. So when we were doing our production meeting earlier tonight, right, you saw me writing down like twice. You didn't seem to, you wrote it twice. Yeah.

It's not for me. Anyway, anyway, Brandon Westgate. It's not Granite Taylor. Yeah.

Not like, yeah. Yeah. I got the same anyway. So, it's a very similar one.

But yeah. So with Brandon Westgate, you did a triflob of a bin and then a back free over the bin over the bin. And then that was it. You got that new balance.

Try it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. It's pretty good. That's how you film skateboarding right there. Yeah.

Really enjoyed it. That's when I first heard of new balance. I was kind of like, oh, they just jump in a ball and try and get another skate team like everyone else. But they've been like, actually doing stuff, which is cool.

You see, they've brought over a few pressures. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. So they might be trying to like actually do it instead of just having riders in little bits. They seem to be almost like in the background.

I was getting like, they're obviously pushing the pros and making the pros comfortable and everything. But they're not like as kind of prominent as say, you're like an idiot. They're almost there. They're all streetly going.

They're like, yeah. Whereas I'm sure new balance, if they wanted to, could take over like whatever competition they wanted to be. New balance presents whatever. Yeah.

But I'm sure they're quite happy being where they are. And the skating community probably likes it more because of that. Yeah. Stick into this kind of.

Yeah. Let's actually talk about the video. Let's talk because this, I can love this video. Yeah.

I've never seen a clue time. I really enjoyed it. When PJ likes just like, you know, flipping flip out whatever and then just plodding along. Like he just gets back on and he's just pushing and pushing.

It's like, what annoys me about what I wanted to do because I know how good it is. It's like, come on, do a few more pushes after that last week and give me another one. Because you know that you're going to be able to like after you do this, you know, like I've finished it with a on that switch tray or whatever in a line. It's like, keep pushing and just give me something else.

Like you could just, you know, unedited just PJ. I just cruise around this. Yeah. It was really good to see that it was actually a good.

Yeah. It's been a while since there's been any, like a considerable amount of footage. Yeah. No, just a few tricks.

Really sexy. But all three they were really, really good. What was that first guy's name? Like Volenie or something?

Uh, Frankie Volenie, isn't it? Yeah. Zero. Zero.

Yeah. That's because he could trick selection. Yeah. Kickflip.

All right. He just heads on. Head on. He's like, fucking hell.

Seriously. Yeah. He's something special. Zero.

Who had that? Middle bit. It was his name. Uh, French guy.

What is it? Flow, um... Oh, Flow Milton. Yeah.

Yeah. Oh, definitely. Yeah. Yeah.

I quite like, I don't appreciate it. Number section. Margry's Henry's on New Balance. Yes.

Yeah. Yeah. Just a few clips. It wasn't a full part.

I would have liked to have seen more from him because I think he rips as well. Yeah. He wasn't being DJK by. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. That's cool because it was a nice, you know, 23rd minute. Yeah.

Well, I think that, you know, it's the time to be living. It's the time to be living. It's the time to be living. It's the time to be living.

You know, growing up with some hour long videos or whatever. But now, when you look at it, you know, you always look, you always look how long the video is going to be in. It's like 20 minutes and 30 seconds, whatever. And I was like, at that time for that?

Yeah. If it was a 53, I'd be like, ah, ah, like, it's like, ah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.

You've actually got to sit there and watch it. Whereas, yeah, 20 minutes, you can just put it on, like, in the morning, sometimes you might have time before it before work. Yeah. No.

Yeah, maybe not. For me, I got plenty of time to stick it on in this nice easy watch. And it was good how it was like part, friend, not friends. But rest of the team, another part, rest of the team again, from Finis and from Pj.

Exactly. Yeah. That was pretty cool. Yeah.

Yeah. But yeah, good job. New balance. Well done, guys.

That was something special. Sorry to, ah, Mr. Gratte, without, you know, like bringing them into the balance. Exactly.

Yeah, definitely. Random worst game. Yeah. Right.

So who else we got on the list? Well, let's go. Well, we can either do the big one, like the big issue there, or we can go for, ah, yeah, go. Yeah.

Well, we'll go with Diego because that's. Yeah. Diego, I think I said, no, you're pretty in there. You're supposed to.

Yeah. That's good. Yeah. You do something with your throat anyway.

But yeah, from S to Adidas. That's a big, big jump. Kind of sucks because I think it really suited, yes. It had like his little, oh, yes, what is, what is, but kind of like suited a style and you could almost imagine the shoes on his feet, I think.

Yeah. I already know the circumstances of leaving. I'm sure he was just enticed over, maybe. Of course he was, I'm sure the money was probably too, you know, any of us getting asked.

I mean, there's, there's, like, the S XL is literally my favourite show of time. I was riding that shoe. It depends how much you had to ask money is. You know, you just don't, you just don't know the young guy.

You can't knock him. You can't knock him for it. So some things, I mean, like if you want to leave, imagine, imagine me with all the team. Riding for ES.

We're all getting paid just to trundle along. But me and Johnny quickly run over and skate some out. Oh, she's gonna pay a little bit more. Are you gonna stay?

Or are you gonna want us to come and skate with your boys? Because you might not be able to. Because it might be, you know, everyone's got groups and clicks and filmmas and some things. You know, something's out.

You might be like, cool. I'm still gonna ride with you guys and ride my ESs. Sometimes that just kind of. And you'd be conflicting like filmmas, everything.

I guess. So what happened? Yeah, it's a difficult one. Well, that's on that.

Do you see his trick on a stage that you've really started putting on Instagram? A couple of days ago. Switch it up. Switch it up.

Switch it up. Switch flip. Switch flip off. Yeah, nice.

He's definitely got some puff about it. Yeah, yeah, it was something special. Yeah, that was a weird one. Because again, it's kind of like you can kind of imagine him hanging with Kelly Hart and doing that sort of thing.

But then again, primitive. A lot of those guys were on the big bucks and big teams. Like New Balance and Adidas, aren't they? Who's on New Balance?

It's Devine, Devine, who says. Yeah. And then everyone else is like him. Adidas.

So it kind of makes sense. Yeah. It might be, I don't know, it might be a weird contract to have on your board company that you have to have a certain. Yeah, I don't know.

I think it's just good money. Good money. It makes sense. Yeah.

Can't really blame it. Let's move on from him. Let's go to the DC issue. Yeah, it's a big issue because I don't really know what they are doing over there.

Chris Cole is now no longer on there. But he hasn't announced where he is officially on. He's wearing vans and has been for over a month now. Yeah.

The first time I noticed him where it was in the Battle of Eric's like this. Just as you guys might be versus Rob. I think I saw him in one of the street leagues in vans. Yeah.

So yeah, it's not like he's trying, because obviously he can't hide the fact. But he's doing all these competitions and everything in the vans. Yeah. And there's not even like a little announcement from van saying, Chris Cole.

Yeah, it's a pro shoe coming. They're not going to, if they're going to, I mean, van's, anyone on, you know, any company would take Chris Cole in a half year. Obviously not DC, but it's a weird reason. But you know, any company would.

So I think if they're going to do a proper announcement in a video part and you know. Hey, we've done a contract for a press year. Yeah. It'll be up straight up.

It's got to be working on a video. Like if anyone's able to smash our video. Give him a weekend. Yeah.

A long weekend. Right at a Sunday. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly.

I know who I would like to go on. Yeah, I know who I would like to go on. Yeah, I know who I would like to go on. Okay.

No, I don't know. America. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Blackgum. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's kind of with that. Kind of with that group anyway.

I can see him. Again, I'll get along. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They'll be right.

I don't know. So, yes, I think it's, I mean, yeah, just Thomas, you know, the type of rain. So like, that could work. But again, I think, you know, I think it's kind of a, you know, I think it's kind of a, you know, Like, yes, I think it's, I mean, yeah, just Thomas, you know, they're tight rain.

Yeah. So like, that could work. But again, I think Cole's at this point where he's a big money player. I just don't think he'll.

You can't go down. Like, can you see him on a, you know, like. I feel like I could, could see him on super or something like that. Because they do have you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I mean, we could make him something that would suit him because they're pretty good at making things to suit people. Like. Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Whereas obviously, do you see it'll kind of all very similar. Whereas yeah, super easy to make it work.

How you want that? That's it. It wouldn't be weird to have any. Okay, so where's your money then?

If you put money on it, would it be that you could be on bands? Oh, yeah. So there's no way that you can wear bands for this long? I don't know if I'm convinced.

Because anything could happen. Anyone could come up with an offer as well. And if he's just doing it for the, you know, making the rest of his life easier and having fun and not really worrying, he might just go to the best day check to set him up for the future. Yeah, yeah.

Because he might not have a decade left in him. Yeah, it's always, you know, he's going to look after his kids and just take a big, big paycheck. Yeah, I think he's going to go. That's pretty cool.

I think Pro Shoe, who bands, I think he would like, you know, I think anyone, any skater, you know, Vans is, you know, getting their own time. Yeah. So if you could get a Pro Shoe with them, that'd be pretty sweet. They'd definitely be able to give him that treatment he needs as well, like with everything.

Yeah. No exactly, going to go bust him. He's not exactly going to leave to go somewhere else, because I pay him a little bit of a hour or something. Yeah, exactly.

I just think it's the alternative to the, no, I can get out of that, isn't it? So it's like, like a big company that has money to throw around. Yeah. But it's a proper skate company, really.

Yeah. It's still kind of out of heart of it. Yeah. Yeah.

I feel he probably thinks it's all right. Being from falling in zero, I suppose Jamie Thomas has had years of talking to him and saying, putting his input into him, but that he wouldn't go to Adidas. Yeah, he's going to go to surfing in. He's always, you know, consolidate.

Yeah, so they're going to solve their shoes. Oh, yeah. Well, let's go to, so, so, with DC, but Mikey Taylor as well, at the same sort of time, he got the boot. So, he's not on the boot?

How long, how long they were both on DC for? Probably about three years. Yeah, because I, obviously Chris Colos, just a bigger character, I guess, is such. Because I can remember Mikey Taylor, Lee Ben, DVS and all that sort of stuff as well.

I don't know. Mikey Taylor always seems to, I find him a hard judge sort of character. Who knows what he's thinking, kind of coming up with. Yeah.

I think he had, they all had time in their contracts. I'm sure that's what, that's what, that's what Barra said. Okay. So he basically on YouTube, he went fucking mental.

DC just saying, how can you get rid of a two time skater in a year and all that sort of stuff. And you know, you got these guys that are still like, I think there was issues with, they was Ferguson and, you know, you picked his star vote. All of that, I don't think it was, yeah. Yeah.

You know, there's something going on there like I think, Barra said, Barra said, they were under contracts, they were something like that. All right. Yeah. And Barra was on himself.

Yeah. And he's not exactly a trouble maker is he? Mikey might have some weird opinion in here. Yeah.

He's not one to necessarily stir it. Yeah. But it's weird how obviously a few years back DC did that rediscover DC and they have that team photo of all of them there. Now you probably look back at that.

Who is still? Where's Kramer? Yeah. And just obviously the original DC guys.

Yeah. They never did it. They never did it. They were there though, sir.

Yeah. Exactly. For the whole time. Rob did it as well.

Yeah. That was really weird. Did he have 10 or 11 trees at the time? I think it was a little bit of an average.

He had a, so he's obviously got a little bit more than just time invested in one of them. Yeah. And Rob did like his such a name that he kind of just sells himself. He doesn't need to carry on skating.

And he is like about everything he reps as well. Yeah. He was head to turn these things. Yeah.

And I think about like celebrity status wise. I mean, you know, in America, what was he like? He probably was like a C-list. Yeah.

You know, he was talking like Clooney or a Black Brow. You know, being like, hey, but I think he's probably a C. What's he got? How many shows?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the problem.

That's huge in America. Yeah. But I would, I think he, I would say he's a skateboard entrepreneur. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Straight. There's not many of them.

No. No. So to get rid of him. He's strange.

Maybe they're just trying to fresh things up. I don't know. They've just kind of got. Maybe looking at budgets.

I don't know. Maybe they're not getting a bad guy tonight. Yeah. Everyone at the name of the game.

Just kind of relying on the T.I. go, Wes and Chase Webb. He's on there. Yeah.

He's a big, big, big. Yeah. Chase Webb, yeah. He's a really good player.

So they're probably just relying on those guys rather than this whole team of like, superscators. I don't know. Yeah. It's a stranger.

And again, like Chris Cole, like I don't, who would, who would get rid of him? It's mental. It's weird. There must be something.

It's got to be something there. Surely it can't just be DC. Maybe Chris Cole has got something. Maybe they asked him to switch Ray Wallenberg and he said, no, I'm not doing it.

And he said, you're going to have to do it. You know what? He said, Danny was like, I jumped out of helicopter. You're going to have to switch Ray Wallenberg.

And he's like, I'm not doing it. And that's why Chris Cole said anyone could jump right out of the car. And Danny was like, no, that's it. You got it.

You got it. Yeah. That's it. We cracked it.

Yeah. That's it. That's it. Yeah.

It's not like he's jumping ship or anything. Keep it rolling. We're kind of, you know, recording at Oxford State Co HQ and that's Boogie, you're delivering, feel that Will. Oh, that's like a little stadium then.

Yeah, that's a bag full of cookie. Oh, bag. Yeah, that's cookies. Yeah, what's that?

That could be like five pounds or something? Yeah. That's like, probably like four-grade right there. That's a lot of cookie.

But that's that dinner so. Really? Not going hungry tonight. Anyway, really interrupted.

I'm just going to go onto straight. So how things have been moving along for those guys? Well, yeah, I was going to suggest maybe Chris Cole could go into it. I don't want to jump into it.

So I waited. Nice, yeah, nice. They've got a bit of a contraption of Braden about recently Antoine's on that. Oh, really?

Yeah. And they've done, I don't know if it's like for him, but it's one that he's been repping, but it's like a conversey sort of high top thing. I've not seen that one. I've seen that one.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's been scared. No, it's not like they're a cool. Antoine's coming back kind of that it looks like.

And everyone else seems to, well, I could go, it seems like it seems like it's the most go. And it's very, very tough. And it's very, very tough. Like, solid guys or others.

So it'll be very interesting this team. Yeah, it's going to be good to see where they go with that company. Because it, I mean, they could do really well. Hopefully they do.

Yeah. Just like a different approach to it. That's it. I think you can see there's a different approach already as well.

Well, yeah, just with the team's election that they've got at the moment. And if they have got Antoine on there as well, that's awesome. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's been putting up for more than just the photos. Oh, good.

Yeah. Because he's been out of there for a while now, isn't he? Yeah, he had that little video recently. It might have been like a vice or something like that.

But it's a bit more of a positive one since you could do it. I don't know how long he's been selling, but I think he's getting in there. So maybe we'll see some clips from him on the straight out of the corner. Yeah, yeah.

I can't afford to that. I don't know. It's weird, but we must have been on there. Yeah.

Even super. Because he, well, he would have had surely the best selling shoe. The sky's up. Yeah, how many of them did they make as well?

Loads. It was like four? Yeah. Yeah.

I mean, they were all wearing them. Yeah, they're both. Yeah, I remember them. I remember them.

Back in school, like year 11. I definitely had some camera maskers. Did you really? Yeah.

Yeah. So I started buying the tongue, waxed laces and stuff. They're gone? Yeah.

I told you, Kyle, it's like a pink, like, leopard print one. Yeah. They're in like the bargain with it. That's funny.

But he was kind of, he tried embracing the pink size of the shoe. And he was like, nah, it got sharpie. And then colored in all the black, because he was black with pink. Yeah.

I think I remember what they looked like. Yeah. You probably saw him wearing that one one one. They were great for skating.

I did the couple of tricks in them. I did, yeah. I've never skated there. Yep.

High tops are always a funny one. But if you don't mind skating, high tops, they're a lot. The highest of bins are half cap. That's the highest of bins.

I don't think they could do it now. I don't think they could do it now. Yeah. You don't really see many people skate high tops now, do you?

You see occasional the big dunks occasionally. Yeah. Or a converse, I suppose. Converse is quite popular.

Polar release that high tops, I think, or polar converse. Yeah. Few high tops. Yeah.

So I guess with the converse, where it's just, there's not really any padding going up. Yeah. So you've been pretty not really restricted much. You've really noticed it.

Yeah. For me, I mean, let's just do a shoe talk now. Welcome to a shoe talk. For me, I can skate in a converse.

So you're skating in a converse? Yeah, yeah. Exactly. They're like a thing.

It's like, I skate in a couple of converse. It's the apple out of it. Apple out of it. Oh, OK.

Because I can say, I can handle some ones. Look pretty good as well. Yeah, they were cool. Actually, I think I'm pretty very similar.

A lot of conanders and adios back in the day. But they were a big, they were a big shoe. Yeah. Can't go for the converse, I think they were.

Just all round, even on the heel and the feet. But not as soon as something like that. Like the chuck. I don't know how people are skating in the nose.

Yeah. And just that, I still can't get on with a rubber toe. It's not. I like to give it a decent go, because something I've got a bit more of.

But I like to try it. Yeah, I haven't got a toe cap in me. It's all just takes it all away from me. It's too much grip.

Yeah, too much grip. I haven't, because all the other new guys have got. But even DC, no, you can't get a lot of the top quite a bit of more of a toe on them now. So it'd just be interesting to try.

But I don't think I actually carry on skating. I'd just like to try it, I think. Yeah. They try for a couple of seconds.

Like a week. Yeah. And then just kind of relegate that shoe. Just stock it out one.

Yeah. Yeah. So I did a really good constructed shoe. They've got the one with the toe cap and the one that's got it.

But with the material at the top. There's no stitching on that, is there? Yeah. Yeah.

So it's an awesome shoe. But I've got to give them the ones with the visible toe cap on it. Like I can't remember the band's terminology for it. It's got the special name, obviously.

You know, like they all do. Yeah. Just flung everything away from me. But then you see someone like Sproul, Phil Sproul, Autumn's Cater.

He's always in his, in his night. Because he all got the all gots he. Yeah. Yeah.

No, not all got stuff. That's how he does. The... Probably kind of these.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Something.

Yeah. Match. Match's got. What?

Which one can I get in there? Yeah. There's something, there's something cool. You can just edit that in there.

All right. But yeah. So he escapes them. And no problem at all.

Like. If anything, you're kind of like helping. Like with the kickflips. So they kind of just.

I think he's just natural. Like I think he's going to do a bad foot. He's got the flip. Yeah.

Exactly. Yeah. He's doing not all your hard flips in his sleep. Yeah.

And so clearly the rubber toe is not. Yeah. It's not the toe. It's not the toe.

It's not the toe. It's not happening. It's not affecting him. No.

No. Just whatever. Yeah. So maybe we need to just get over ourselves and do it.
