#6 – Podcasting Equivalent of Truck Nuts (Men at Arms Pt. 2)

I remember that because one of them was the script editor one and then the other I will say while we were recording last episode when we started talking about Patrick Roth this in my head I was like this is too much. We need to start talking about Patrick Roth this. It's relevant to the book I know it's pretty it's pretty back. It's brought the cover own old fan favorite segments You know that the segment that started called Kill a Chronicles in the first place So I know but my problem is that I don't want the audience to get too comfortable with our f Weibles You know I don't want them to be like oh, this is the thing I enjoy about the podcast.

I want them to be uncomfortable Yeah, I don't I want to the podcast and be like why are they doing this to me? I mean we did we did succeed at that later. Yeah, with our extended It was a pretty good episode. Yeah, it was a mind to panda to listen is a little bit I don't mind to have a few returning segments if it's not like you know, we're not doing it like Like Apparently like I'm gonna press the sample button that says it like sets off a siren alarm and no one can talk for like 20 seconds That's my response every time All the last age of positive went up we like had a long macaroni rant and then it took us like two months to record the next episode So of course all the all the bad Travis shit has piled up during that time So that episode has another like five minutes make a row around again I just I'm done with it, you know, I'm done with me a lot to say this man.

It's funny It's not even that that Travis is bothering me or the macaroni brand is bothering me It's just that there's so much cringe that they're posting and it's It's very entertaining to me how they've been podcasting for over 10 years I'm still do like still fuck up in ways that you think they should learn at this point. I'm getting into some dicey territory. This just comes to like that You know that the conflict between altruism and egoism, you know where it's like do the emotions matter if the deed is good Yeah, you know Like what does it matter what their motivation is if like the ultimate outcome is that it's positive. Yes, also a good question No, I who are we to say anyway? I think I do just about serial killing I'm just imagining a guy who does serial killing just so he can be all my favorite murder Like just wants them to notice him so he does serial killing.

Yeah, is it is it ableist to say that it's bad to be pathologically driven to kill I don't think it's a list to say that a mental illness is bad, you know No, because the whole point of having a mental illness is that it's an illness I think you most people would prefer not to have them like if someone was like I think OCD is bad I would be like yes. She loves it. It's so cool Like that's where this guy loves like more folks so much I'm jealous of a city. He is figuring out all the universe calculations and he is writing them on the wall Meanwhile cuddy runs off and gets the keys from the guy who runs the port features warehouse Comes back and basically lets him out, but he's pretty unwell And veterinarian goes to see leonard of quern the guy who invented the gun who he is keeping in a special room in his palace Like behind like some secret corridors, but that's fine with it Yeah, he's fine Yeah, he doesn't mind as long as he's got like pen and paper and is allowed to do what he wants, which is a nice reason Yeah, um, they discussed that the gun is gone And that's stolen and is being used and then they both talk about how neither of them decided to destroy it even though they probably should have Um, and then there is like, yeah, I didn't destroy either I just gave it to the assassin's guild thinking they would get rid of it, but I don't know why because I Sorry, I gave the death machine to the death people. Yeah I mean you can argue that there is no real difference But in this the gun is presented the gun presented is almost having a consciousness of its own where it desires to kill Yeah, it's essentially like a parasite that yeah, so kind of gets the keys He's let them the charges out the charges is in a bad way So he tries to take him to a doctor in like the troll district Which is like in the slaughterhouse area It's kind of scary because obviously they don't like to walk there because of the dwarf troll tensions When they get there, it's announced that the day watch a guy called Was his name getting with q quirk quirk has arrested this troll who was so vaguely seen in the same area as a murder So they've arrested this troll who was seen at the area Around the time of one of the murders he I mean he obviously didn't do it But you know, it's convenient for them to find a murderer But what it's done is it's increased the the racial tension between the dwarves and the trolls in the city So while while they're in this So other of this troll district, um, they get like attacked by some trolls They tried to run away and then some dwarves come and they end up in like a short skirmish down like a sort of narrow alleyway Uh, they tried to some cody escape, um, but they fall down into like an underground sewer tunnel, which is sort of wondering Yeah, quick as being problematic. Um They he did sit a watch moment Yeah He sort of he sort of appears and is like we're gonna get rid of um everything We sort of all out the day watches in charge now the night which is being disbanded It says some there are some he's a bad person. We were informed he is racist Meanwhile vines is like very drunk. He's basically drunk himself into a stupor So kara and angler go to find him He's clutching something really hard in his hand, which tends to be his badge Ang was like, why do you respect this guy this guy stupid?

He's drunk. He's the worst Um, he never has any money. Why does he live in the shitty apartment? Um, and he has like nothing on the wall He's got like a male living space Um Um, and then you check out his buffal right car.

It's sick You know, he's got a bed and nothing in it and kara's like well, he doesn't spend a lot of time here Uh, they go through it and go decides to go through a shit kara's like you shouldn't go through a ship She's like yeah, but i'm gonna um It finds like a bunch of names with like money and she's always spent all his money on women Um and kara's like no, he didn't and then kola and i'll be appears and they talk about it And it's uh he informs angler that in fact These are actually the widows of dead watchmen and mine spends most of his money that he gets Um Basically paying out to orphans and widows of the watch to make sure that they're like looked after because there's no sort of pension scheme or anything They try and make him there while they try and make him sober and they make him there accidentally with too much clatching coffee Just like that classic scene from the watch tv series. Uh-huh I don't know that we love that shit Yeah, um, yeah, we wakes up. He's like uh, they're being disbanded This was less fun than it was like in the tv show when they did this it was like, haha quirky funny Just reading the vangers and this one This was more like it sucks to be it sucks to be this drunk, but also if you become too sober, that's not good either Vimes is always always his normal state is like too below regular sobriety. He has to he has to drink to be sober Yeah, yeah, they have to gain some alcohol to like make him normal again because they give him too much coffee Um, he got a coffee Got a coffee coffee Meanwhile, caddy intertractors find like a spooky tunnel with a spooky cool under the city There's like sewers, which they don't currently have you know, these are old sewers.

There's no sewers currently Some some great cloaker jokes though. Yeah, be a cloaker Classic, uh, they also find a body of a clown, which they thought they'd already found so what does that mean? And the clown is actually a Dutch guy, um, and we know this because he's called coal face. Oh, I see Uh, it's so funny.

Yeah, so After quakes like dissolve the watch, um, Vimes goes to his fiancee, um, and has a bath And he's like, I will not think about anything. I will have a bath instead Um, and he's uncomfortable because willikins is there and he's like I am here to look after you and finds his like, okay Please don't scrub my back for me go help the old geezer who he's the water You know, please tell me your first name and he says like It's just like Yeah, I don't have a first name Uh, karaq goes down and investigates this old tunnel and he's very excited about it because he loves history and cloakers Then they hear about that. I think in this yeah, this is a great part where they like find that That bill is paying to to the widows of former city watchman Then like the daughter of one of them like who passed away It's like yeah, he he pays that out of his own pocket.
