Welcome to ’60 Minutes or less’ - a podcast from Birthday Cake For Breakfast - where for episode 66, it’s an honour to feature an interview with Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Rival Schools and more!A man of many iconic moments in hardcore - according to one YouTube comment, the man who “legalised being handsome in hardcore” - Walter Schreifels has been ripping it since the late 80s and continues to do so today.With Quicksand, completed by bassist Sergio Vega and drummer Alan Cage, Schreifels has released four studio albums, with their latest - ‘Bring On The Psychics’ - arriving July 2026 via Equal Vision Records / Rude Records.I caught up with Walter over Zoom in May ahead of the release of their new album, where we spoke of the record, as well as The Smiths, Wetherspoons, 80s movies, his connection to hardcore and the literal youth of today.
