#60 Sadhguru on Planting Trees and Opening Minds

from SuperLife with Darin Olien · host Darin Olien

Across the world, rivers are drying up, and once lush green lands are transforming into deserts. To reverse the destruction of our planet, more people need to become aware of the desperate need for more trees.  WELCOME TO THE DARIN OLIEN SHOW. I'm Darin Olien, the "superfood hunter." On this podcast, you'll hear honest conversations with extraordinary people that inspire me. I hope that through their knowledge and unique perspectives, they'll inspire you, too. Although our ideas and approaches to life may differ, our ultimate goal is the same. We want to save the planet. So we're going to try, one conversation at a time. If you're interested in expanding your view of the world while learning new angles on health and nutrition, you're at the right place. Sadhguru's work has touched the lives of people all over the world. Sadhguru is a yogi, a mystic, and a New York Times best-selling author. Once named one of India's 50 most influential people, Sadhguru's work spans various causes all across the planet. He's been an influential voice at major global forums, including the United Nations World Headquarters and the World Economic Forum. He covers a wide range of topics such as socio-economic development, leadership, education, and spirituality at these forums. One of his many significant accomplishments is founding the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organization run by over 11 million volunteers worldwide. Sadhguru is extremely knowledgeable about so many different things that affect our planet. In this conversation, we focus on his passion for preserving Native American culture and his initiative to heal the earth by planting trees. Inspired by what he calls "a spiritual encounter with a Native American spirit," Sadhguru embarked on a 10,000-mile motorcycle journey across 16 states. His goal was to explore a 40,000-year-old culture that is disappearing every day. Sadhguru doesn't just dip his toes into a mission. He fully immerses himself in it. And his wisdom and compassion compel others to do the same, which makes him such a powerful force to bring real, actionable change to the world. With his initiative, Project Greenhands, 42.1 million trees were planted in farmland in South India. I could talk to Sadhguru for hours, and I wish I could have since there was so much we couldn't cover. However, if you're not familiar with him or his work, this is an excellent introduction of what can be done when, as he says, "you have ecology in your heart."
