Henslowe is threatened by the play’s producer Hugh Fennyman and his thugs because Henslowe owes money to Fennyman. If the play opens as planned Henslowe can pay what’s owed; but The Rose Theatre is currently closed because of the plague.  Philip Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.Hugh Fennyman: So what do we do?Philip Henslowe: Nothing.
