60. Slender Man's Proxies: Anissa Weier & Morgan Geyser

from Pink Collar: A True Crime Podcast · host Pink Collar Pod

Welcome back! This week, Nathalie takes the reins and we on a single crime: the Slender Man stabbings. Slender Man started out as an internet meme (or creepypasta) that quickly turned into viral, collaborative folklore. The mythology surrounding the fictional creature - an unnaturally tall, faceless entity that lurks in forests and harms children - got the attention of people of all ages: including Morgan Geyser & Anissa Weier. Morgan & Anissa were just 12 years old when they decided that they wanted to prove the skeptics wrong and become "proxies" of Slender Man. The way to do that? Well, they decided they needed to kill their best friend. Fortunately, after being stabbed in a park 19 times by Morgan and Anissa, their 12 year old victim was able to crawl to safety and ultimately survived. We engage in an interesting conversation about early intervention, conduct vs. oppositional defiant disorder, appropriate punishment/treatment and our own childhood experiences.  Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something_Awful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creepypasta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slender_Man https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slender_Man_stabbing https://www.wicourts.gov/ca/opinion/DisplayDocument.pdf?content=pdf&seqNo=172752 https://www.wicourts.gov/ca/opinion/DisplayDocument.pdf?content=pdf&seqNo=276546
