61. A Father's Quest: Uncovering the Truth Behind Elly Warren's Death

from Buried

In 2016, Elly Warren, a young Australian marine biology volunteer, was found dead in Tofo, Mozambique, after a night out with friends. Although local police initially ruled her death as a drug overdose, her father, Paul, grew suspicious upon discovering that her actual cause of death was asphyxiation from sand. Believing local corruption was hindering the investigation, Paul launched his own relentless search for justice, even traveling to Mozambique. Over the years, he uncovered troubling details, including a witness who described seeing Elly's body with signs of potential assault and local rumors about a powerful figure connected to her death. With the help of a German investigator and a woman who infiltrated the suspect’s gang, Paul gathered evidence, including a recorded confession from the suspect, revealing the crime was a planned robbery gone wrong. Despite pressure from authorities to cease his efforts, Paul remained determined to seek justice for his daughter, submitting a report to Australian authorities in 2020, committed to exposing the truth behind Elly's tragic fate.
