61. When Mistakes Mount Up: Applying the Gospel to Our Mom Mistakes

Welcome back to the kitchen table. This week Bethany sits down with Jennifer Pepito for a fantastic conversation on battling feelings of fear, guilt, and shame when it comes to mistakes. Not only mistakes that we make as parents but also walking through our children’s mistakes.    As moms, we battle with fear, especially when it comes to parenting. And, when our children make mistakes, we can instantly experience guilt, embarrassment, and failure. Both Bethany and Jennifer provide a wealth of wisdom on how we can combat those feelings and how we can join our children and walk through mistakes without shame. But instead by applying grace and forgiving ourselves.    Parenting isn’t perfect, but God did not intend it to be. And, he doesn’t shame us when we make mistakes. It’s a calm conversation. In moments where we meet our children with shame, rage, and big emotions, we can step back and ask God for forgiveness and turn to scripture to guide us through our mistakes.    We are often overcome by fear when we raise our children because we want them to love God, have a happy life, and follow Jesus. And, oftentimes we focus on behavior and performance, and fear mistakes. Where instead we can learn to walk by their side offering  reconciliation and forgiveness when your child might fall from the path.
