I'm Ryan Dodds and with me today is Mr Buckfield. Will Hickey, how's it going mate? It's going good, how you doing? Well, good mate, the sun is shining.
The sun is shining, so there's a lot of skating to be had and life's good. I can't complain, all getting in Canada. Lovely. Well, I've got a bit of snow right now out here and it's a bit cold, but we're getting there.
We're having some nice days too and skating's definitely happening. Obviously, a lot to talk about. There's more content than we can actually keep up with at the moment. There's just shit loads of videos left right and certainly coming.
But before we get into any of the stuff that we want to delve into, let's talk about some Instagram at the moment. We've been enjoying some of the clips out there, aren't we? Yes, there's been a lot of clips and bits coming out right now. Definitely some Instagram clips, what have you been enjoying recently?
So obviously on the Turbo Chat, mate, what's up between all the boys? We send in a few funnies now and again, you see a bale mate, you see a power bomb off a rail, you've got to send it into the boys just so I have a little look at. You might miss it, you might miss it on your feed, you might not see it, you might not be following the same person or you might be looking at it in that day. It's not that important.
So I wanted to bring up that one where there's a lad trying to learn how to do an Oli or something at Skate Park. And there's two younger lads like sitting on a ledge at Skate Park, we'll get back to that. Sitting on a ledge at Skate Park, finger boarding or one's finger boarding, the other one's watching someone finger board while sitting on a ledge. You remember this clip right?
Oh, I remember. So they're in the background, just sitting on a scene and mate boy in a foreground, he's learning how to Oli. He's getting off the ground and everything, but he's not quite one with the board. Am I right and saying that?
Well, he's just not quite kind of attached to the board. He's not getting out of search of his feet just yet. Yeah, and with an Oli, everyone's been there. When you first learn to Oli and actually try to get some sort of size, you're always going to have that sort of same sort of thing.
When you're learning trays, the same sort of thing, you're going to turn your body open, you're going to land kind of feet facing forward, same direction as the nose, and you're going to go last over to it. It just happens, right? Well, you know what I mean? You know what I'm saying with the tray?
You're following it. But Oli, it happens with the Oli as well. It does happen. So this guy in the foreground, he's trying to do an Oli and he just don't work for him.
He leaves the board, lands back onto the board. Already that doesn't sound good, does it? And then the board proceeds to just fire at the lad who's watching some other boy, fingerboard at the skate park while they're both sitting in the ledge and just smashes him in the face and I think he loses a tooth or something like that. But he takes like a champ mate, he's smiling at the end.
But I'm just all I'm going to say, and I think I said at the time, it's karma in it. And then you back me up. You know, I don't want to, you know, these kids going to a skate park being productive. But if you're fucking watching some other little motherfucker fingerboarding while you should be learning how to do a kick flip or an Oli or anything, or just rolling around having fun outdoors, maybe you've got it coming to you and you're sitting on a ledge at a skate park.
I mean, well, what you saying about that? Oh, it's just a danger zone. It's just a danger zone. Obviously there might be that ledge at the park where people sit.
But you know, even if you're an experienced skate, you're sitting around there, you're seeing a guy throw an Oli like that. You probably know that you're in the hitting zone. You get out of the way or you just you're prepared, aren't you? But not normally the best place to sit when it's quiet, you know, do what you want.
But fuck the other words you're asking for it. Yeah, I mean sitting on ledges is a big faux pas in the skate park landscape. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm not the, you know, I don't frequent that many skate parks because I'd rather sit on the curb.
You know what I mean? That's just me. That's just me. I know the score do not be sitting or standing or being anywhere in the way in the middle of a skate park.
It's just not on. You don't you just don't do that. And this old boy, it wasn't it. It didn't look like a ledge that everyone was skating.
Again, back me up here, Will. This old boy, you get to board smashed into his face. Right. God bless him.
He's watching some of fingerboard at skate park. I mean, surely God was, you know, if you believe in that, God must have been looking down and going like that boy's going, I'm going to make sure that the physics just dictates that board goes right into that kid's teeth. So he learns not to watch fingerboard in a skate park wall sitting on the ledge. Am I right in that?
Am I right in that? Yeah. Right now. It's almost, you know, can't really think of anything good to compare it with, but it would have been just as good if he had his eyes closed.
No, he didn't even try and flinch. It was too late. Yeah, definitely was way too late. You're right.
He had no idea that that board was just, you know, the trucks just aiming for his front teeth. He probably even forgot he was in a skate park at that time. Well, he was so, he was so entranced, mate, by that fingerboard. And that kid who was doing a fingerboard, it must have been like the Rodney Mullen, a fingerboard.
Yeah, it was just doing a, because I, you know, I can't think of what to say in my life, you know, when you were at school, you know, you could do a couple of little olives or whatever. But people, some people can do kick clips and shit mates. And some real fucking tricks for fingerboards. I can't.
Oh, yeah. That little kid must have been pulling some moves to keep that. So he could either watch a fingerboarder, or he could watch someone skateboard in front of him and he's decided to pick the fingerboarder. Yeah.
Yeah. So yeah, he did deserve it, really. No, I do. Right.
So we've got that clip, mate. There's another clip. Let me just try and find the other one. I'm just going to try and stick with bales for the moment, mate.
If you want to play with it. Yeah, just say, you want to play with it. Yeah, so the other bale I've got is, I've got the, I don't know if it's the one, it might be a different one. The skater hub Instagram page and someone looks, looks like he's going for like a frontside nolly heel down a quarter pipe.
Is this the one you're talking about? Will you got another one? No, I don't know about the other one you put in the chair. Right.
So this one was earlier, but this other boy, so he's doing a frontside nolly heel kind of off the top, from the top of a quarter pipe concrete skate park down to the bottom. Yep. Kind of again, tries to go for the catch midair, but then because he's pushed, he's pushed down and he's not been, he's either, he's kind of in that middle ground. I've not been aggressive enough in terms of the catch.
Not me, ma'am it. Will. Yeah. As soon as that catches, come, I'll catch it high, but I'm going to drive that down to the ground.
Yeah. Some people, you know, the other side of that is to catch it high, but then just to, just to let it just sit there, you know, let the kind of, let the pops stay. You know what I mean? You're keeping that hang time.
That's it. He's kind of done a bit of both. He's kind of like jab down to go for that, that catch, but the board's kind of just dropped down by like three inches underneath his feet. So he's caught it, but the board's not with him.
Then they both, so then when he does land on the board, when the board hits the ground, it shoots him out and this other boy smashes his face on the ground like proper chinner. Oh, yeah. Yep. It was strong.
Yeah, it was strong. Yeah, but very enjoyable. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah.
He didn't seem like he was absolutely fucked from it. He just, he's obviously a good skater. He's doing a frontside, noly heel off of something that's probably five foot tall. He's a good skater, but just kind of get that catch sort done because you've got found out there, you know, just, I've delivered that down or just hold it up.
Don't do the middle ground because you can't, there is no middle ground. So I'll keep your feet up well. Am I right, mate? Oh, yeah.
Or just drive them down. I don't think there's a middle ground in there. Well, that's it. It just bounces off your feet.
I mean, either some of those ones with a catchy, I almost kind of can catch it and kind of lift it up a little bit to have a control or like you said, put it down. Yeah, exactly. It's like sometimes it's nice to kind of, you know, keep that back foot tucked up, you know, proper ninja style, you know, keeping everything high. But other times if you just want to keep control of that board and you want to just deliver that home, put your feet on it, put your feet on it and drive that home and you're going to walk away.
But I'm sure that lads, you know, I'm sure he got that clip in the end or he's, or maybe he skied for life for me, you know, I mean, he's just scared of. I was probably a chin, a little bit of glue in the chin afterwards or something. I think we're going to switch in there. Yeah.
There's not much, not much flesh on the bottom of the chin. No, no. So, so are you talking about the whole, so the Thrasher Hall of Meat page with the board side, the backs are board side. Is that the one you're going for?
It's like the double whale on like the bench to bench. Kind of one. No, I haven't got to that one yet. I haven't got to that one yet.
Yeah. The one I've got, the one I've got, I'm scrolling down from like the, from earliest to latest. Okay. And, because we've, we've, we've, we've hit more on these than actually thought, but so some, some guy is on the Thrasher Hall of Meat page and Kieran B hates his name is and he's got for a backside board slide on quite a small rail over like a grass gap, kind of the DIY spot.
And he goes for the backside board side, which, you know, is a classic, you know, handrail trick. If you ain't got that, don't, don't be touching handrails. And he just scorpions himself. He kind of goes for it.
Mrs, Mrs, Mrs. And knows his head proceeds to go over the other side of the rail and just that, that is just breaking point. And then he gets the scorpion legs and then it shows a picture of his face afterwards. And he has his nose and his side of his face took a good old fucking pummeling.
Yeah. Just, and it's like, obviously got paid to play, but fuck me. Was it worth it for a backside board side down a shit, a little handrail, a shit with the DIY park, you know? Yeah, probably not.
Probably not. What was the clip you were talking about? You said a double bail, mate? Yeah.
So he, Ollie's up from a brick ramp and goes to the 50th of a wooden bench and captures his back. Someone left the rail clips. Did I post that today or yesterday or something? Was it that one?
Yeah. That. Yeah, that would have hurt. That would have really, really, really hurt.
Yeah. But that's just how it is, mate. You know what I mean? He's fully committed.
He's gone for the 50 on top of the bench. And just got it to slow him over front of me now. Yeah, gone for the, yeah. Gonna, yeah.
Gonna kind of like a thin brick, like little, little kind of, just imagine a drop curb and riding up a bit, but it's a brick version of that. And he's going up that, Ollie's to the top of the, top of the wooden bench to grind it, 50-50. Do you think he's going for something else after that, mate? Do you think he's going for the next bench or something?
Yeah, he's definitely got the speed to gap out to the next bench or whatever, I guess. Yeah, I just can't see him, I can't see him like, just, unless he's one, eight, you know, this 50-50 on top of this, the first bench. I can't see him doing anything else. So this motherfucker, let me just get the, let me just get the, yeah.
So it's on, it's on rail clips, where I Instagram and fuck me, this, this lad. Keaton Rogers is his name. And he absolutely bounces the fuck off of this. He almost, yeah, it's like someone's just power bombs him.
He's gone for the 50 clips of back truck, ease up on the air, power bombs to the back of that bench, just on that point of the bench and he goes down like a sack of shit. But again, I'm sure he's all right. I'm sure he's going to try again, mate. You know what I mean?
That's the part of the game. You know, try again. That's it. But very enjoyable to watch.
I mean, it was a good clip, you know, probably better than the clip he was going for. Just be careful about that, that track. Well, yeah, you can't be, you know, people, you know, the 50 years, the classic, but you've got to know that back truck is important. You know, it's like anything.
You just, you don't want to hang up on anything. That is just, you're always going to have a bad time if you hang up on something. And he was just, he was just thinking that 50 was coming to him. And he, you got to make sure that 50 coming to you.
I know he's already thinking, he's probably thinking about that next transition of what he's, you know, what trick he's doing out with that bench. But take care of the 50 first, you know what I mean? Take care of the 50 first and you know, you wouldn't get power bombs onto a bench. Right.
So should we, should we move on to the videos we're going to cover today, mate? Yeah, let's do it. Nice. So we've got loads of content to kind of go over, mostly on Thrasher.
That's obviously that is the skate Bible. So we're going to use that as our main reference point. I know, you know, there's a lot of other magazines that have got good videos coming out, but we're going to generally stick to Thrasher. And if you want, Will, do you want to start with the, is it volume four?
What is this brand? You know, what is the score with this? It's kind of like the second video I've seen of it is seen on Thrasher. Is that the brand volume four?
And is it pretty short? Just kind of like the collective of kind of not officially like the Baker boy crew, the Shakejunk crew, the America crew, kind of just like those, those boys, not all necessarily all on Vegas still. But you know what I mean? Like more of the OG crew, newge.
Obviously Herman, Sami Baker, D. Austrian, John, John Dix and our boy. So we're in there. Heavy hitting swabs, right?
So heavy hitting swabs. Yeah, all the guys we like to see, I think it's just kind of like, you know, then getting some clips for the volume four, just kind of like a little, a little collective. So what you saying then? Break it down to me, you know, tunes in it, parts in it.
How was it kind of structured? What, you know, what? So really, I thought there was going to be a bit more to it, obviously. It's just the promo.
It's just hyping it up for the volume for. And maybe what they've got from you so far and it's just got the boys in it, pretty much hitting spots. And I guess it's just, it was just a few minutes in there of a hype up. I've got on in the background here.
It's just kind of like the classic squad of those boys and just, so it's more of a montage of tricks. I guess it's what's the common, some raw skating in there, banks, heavy, back heavy tricks into banks. You know, the, the what we like to see these guys do really. John Dix and get a switch flip for us.
You hit anything? It wasn't a switch flip in there. I think he only really had a kind of one little trick in there. They had a little bit of, they just showed a glimpse of Antoine Dix in his face in there.
So maybe, maybe he's going to be in the background getting a couple tricks. Okay. Yeah. Nice.
Nice. Okay. Yeah. Just a little teaser, mate.
Just a little teaser. We had a really nice clip I liked from a nude, just this big bank kind of like just down bank under a building with a drop off at the end. Blast a burial heel into it and kind of lands in many, obviously probably by accident and just holds it for maybe about a third of the way, but just, you know, sometimes you get those tricks and it just happens to land in many and sometimes it's easier to roll in many for a little bit rather than just try and put it down. Oh, well, well, yeah, because you can freak out, mate.
You know, I mean, you land in many and you're going down some heavy duty. Obviously, you know, I'm not speaking from experience. I might land in many if I'm just going up or down a little edge or something. But if you're doing a heavy hitting spot, I know exactly.
You just just glide that just if you're in it, just stay with it because you don't want to put the weight down. You want to be putting the foot down and kind of, you know, exit in your emergency exit. You know, you don't want to be doing that because you can fuck yourself up. And also, like saying, putting it straight down, you're going to be that distribution away.
You're going straight from that back heel kind of like a little bit back pocket balance. If you kind of just go for the putting the front foot down, you can do the little classic tumble roll, can you? That's it. Yeah.
You might be one of those things where you know, you might not be able to put it quite down. You might be leaning that far back sort of thing. But yes, it's nice when you see those things, you know, no. So you say, nice.
So you know, can you give it a turbo rating or is it just a fun video? Not really worth it. It is a teaser. It is just a pure little promo, I guess.
But oh, I loved it. You know, you've seen all the boys in there having fun showing you that they still got it. You know, we saw a nice little hard flip from Herman off of, you know, like a pavement slab bump to bump. And then a little barrier behind there.
You know, we always want to see a hard flip from Herman on a nice boosted trip, of course. Yeah, just all the guys in there going hard, you know, even even Dustin Dolan just in the background, typing up, you know, we want to see Dustin Dolan drink a beer or throw himself down a set stairs or something. You know, we want to see it. I want to see it.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's nice to see, you know, you know, merging all these things together that we all, you know, as skateboarders and skate fans and everything like that, we kind of we merge them anyway, don't we?
You know, we merge them. You're in Baker and Death Wish. Obviously some of them are the same companies, some of them are just people in the same crew with the same sort of mates and everything, kind of just a amalgamate together. But it's nice that we're actually doing something for that, you know, actually kind of like, you know, breaking down those walls of America and Baker and just pulling them together.
You know, it's a nice, it's a nice, it's a nice, it's a nice, good idea. Yeah, just the boys like, oh, figgy in there hitting a couple of gnarly, gnarly, overgrown handrails. You know, just, yeah, what we like to see the boys do. That was really enjoyable.
I could put a three rating on it, but, you know, really, it's just kind of hyping you up for the promo. I think there's a any form of date on there for when they're trying to bring it out. Yeah, we don't need a date either, do we mate. You know, I mean, that's one of those ones.
Just give us a little bit of content. They've got something they're probably excited about, but they want to put something out proper. So they're just going to dangle a little carrot for themselves as well. You know, I mean, it's kind of just putting that out there, just to boost themselves up a little bit.
And obviously to get us excited about it as well. And we're going to get excited about seeing the likes of John Dixon, favorite of service sports radio, just just hitting anything. I mean, obviously all these boys are quality like Zen Herman, any of the, you know, shape jungle, Baker, America, they're all killer skaters. It's going to be exciting to see what they put out in a fresher approach.
Because obviously this is more of a homey sort of a homey sort of brand that they're kind of putting together here. So it could almost have a roar of vibe, probably not raw than Baker, Baker, the fuck the rawest motherfucker on planet. And they do it better than everyone. But it could have that nice kind of just homey, homey feel to it.
It's just nice. I like watching this video. That's what I'm getting at. Yeah, no, definitely.
And it's still going to be a heavy hitting, homies video. So you can't have. Yeah, you can't have figure without having a heavy hitting fucking video, can you know, it's going to be heavy hitting. Let me move on to the real video, mate, that I've been watching recently.
So it's kind of like a little intro video. It's kind of not a pro video, just bring into the squad, you know, this guy with declaring kind of like what real deal with Harry and then all maybe a year or so ago, where they're kind of just saying, obviously, our squad is one of the elite squads in the business. We're quite picky, but this boy is on the team now. So yeah, it's for a lad called Patrick Praman, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's about P-R-A-M-A-N.
So, Praman, you know, Praman. Yeah, I think it doesn't matter what his name is. Any what the point is, mate, he is a fucking six skater, well, well deserved of real. This lad could skate for any pro team on the planet right now.
I'm just putting out there. He is going to, he is a future player. He is great video part mate. The tune was awesome.
It kind of, I didn't actually take down the name of the tune. It's slower pace, more kind of like a, you know, like an early rock and roll style tune, you know, like an Elvis Presley sort of deal. Went Elvis Presley, but that sort of vibe, it was a bit slower, but it really worked for him. Really, really enjoyed it.
Hit some stupend-disclips. Anyone who hasn't seen this, go and check out, just go on the thrasher and just scroll down and try and find it, you know, type in real skateboards. I'm sure he'd be the first motherfucker who pops up, but well, this, this old boy, you'll have to see it, mate. He is special talent.
He is very, very special. I'm not going to kind of, you know, go into any of the tricks. There's so many tricks that this, this lag can do. Flip and flip out heavy shit, big rails.
He is, he's going to, he's going to be something, you know what I mean? That name isn't going to go away. One for the film for them. We will know how to pronounce his name, you know, you know, in years to come.
We're going to know who this, who this lad is. But I would easily give that a solid three, very, very good part mate. I'd give it a solid three. You know, he's on the cusp of a four.
That's how good it is, but you know, four is a hard to sort of combine. You know, it doesn't really matter anyway. But solid three part, very, very strong. You know, you'd watch it.
You'd watch it a few times and you'd be happy with it each time you watched it. So yeah, well done to everyone involved with that because it was, yeah, fucking solid. Nice. Well, yeah, just saying, you know, it's not the easiest team to get on.
And every person on real fucking, no doubt there, there are great, great fucking skater. Exactly mate. There is no one that's ever scape for real that's subpar. You know, no one's got on, you know, just for being alright or, you know, just, I've got a gimmick or they do a certain thing.
Like you have to be pretty fucking good at everything. Even if you're not a transiting skater, you'll probably be able to skate transition better than most people. You know, it's that sort of deal. So yeah, he pulls into that bracket.
Let's move on mate. Let's move on. So new balance. Jamie Foy has got a laceless shield or something.
Obviously I watched this. This was on your journalistic side of the spectrum mate. What's the correct way to shoot them? Well, yeah, again, I wasn't sure if this was going to be like a full shoe part again or not.
And basically it was a really short video and I liked it. It was kind of like an actual advert, but more on the old school skate vibe of still being with just not taking things so seriously. It was much different kind of in England as well back in the day more when we were younger. You'd have a March Churchill, all the boys like that doing a bit more of a silly deal, but it was laid back.
It was fun. Like Dan Keats, you know, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We always would have the sidewalk videos where they would in between, they'd have some skits and it was kind of like a little skit mix of an advert. It was Jamie Foy in a film looking to go for a spot and he's walking around in his shoes around tight and he's tripping up all over him and all the spots are kind of shut down and they get to a spot, they cut the rail off and he trips up the stairs and he goes to rip his laces off and as he grips him off, they turn into the 306 L or whatever it is and it is just a shoe, it is just a slip on.
The exact same color way it kind of goes through some of it, but he gets to skate the video because it does a couple tricks down the handrail. But... It's like a classic overcroak or something mate, you know? Yeah, it was a couple of classic Foy tricks.
It was really quick, I think it was literally like a minute or something. Yeah. But it was just nice to have that kind of fun side again and fair play on Foy, I guess, because it was it last year or the year before, he had that... The lace version slightly more technical than the slip on, which I'm not really a slip on fan, but I can't knock them.
They're just two sort of slippers. It's chill as though. Yeah, let me just ask you a few questions with this. Have you seen a picture of this slip on mate?
Did you get a view of it? Yeah, you did. So is it his Foy shoe, the new balance, Jamie for whatever fucking number it was, and they removed the laces or does it just look like a fucking band slip on? That's my point blank question.
Let me get it up again just as a refresher. It goes like... It's not the same with slip on's mate. Oh yeah.
I think Etney's released the... like Shekla released a slip on Marana or whatever. It doesn't do it for me. It just looks like a fucking stand to slip on Van Shoe.
It's like, oh, if you're going to do a slip on shoe, let's get a little bit of fucking technology in it. So I'm curious. That's all. Oh, no, definitely.
So it is a fairly generic... a fairly generic shoe is in a... Yeah. Does it look like?
I don't know. It's going to be in the eye of the beholder, really. But... So I'm just trying to get a really good picture of it so I can...

Literally, I've not seen the shoe. I've no idea what the shoe... Because if you watch this video on Frasher or YouTube, at the end of the video, it will give you a... Do you want to watch the other video and it's just like a...

It goes from the picture of his shoe and it flips over into the lazeless version. Yeah, I'm saying right now, it does pretty much look like your average... your average slip on. But it's got an extra kind of gum round the front.
It's got a little pull tab. Yeah. It does look like a new balance shoe. It might even have...
But it's definitely got the new balance sole and a little bit of technology in it which it tries to show you by kind of taking the layers apart. Okay, all right. It does resemble the Frasher as such, but it is... You know, you could also say that it kind of looks like some of the Americas slip ons would probably seem in the past two.
Yeah, it's just one of those things, mate, that kind of... If you see we're going to do a slip on shoe, which obviously they have... They've got the Evan-style shoe, the Evan-Smith kind of pro model, wouldn't they? But I'm talking about they're going to slip on Stevie Williams.
I mean, that's what I'm saying. You've got to do it right. You've got to be authentic to it. Don't just give that standard grey, yellow colorway and say it's the Stevie Williams slip on.
Do you know what I'm saying, mate? Yeah, 100%. Let's do it legitimately. Let's make it sort of a chunky shoe and you're going to have to figure out how fucking stays on my foot.
Because otherwise, it's literally just a standard slip that I'm never going to skate. Yeah, me too. Because we're more in a cup sole, the chunky shoe or something a bit more substantial. And quite frankly, I don't really like the look of a slip on.
Yes. It doesn't do anything for me. It just looks a bit like... In England.
In England, back in the day, when you're in primary school, to all our American listeners, what's that? Elementary school? Not kindergarten. Yeah, yeah, and kindergarten, whatever.
Well, yeah, sorry. Yeah, we'd go and play football or something like that. Or just go and do some running or something outside. Now, in my school, there was a standard red t-shirt, black shorts, and then you add plimpsils, right?
Which are fucking van slippons. And they were the uncoolest things ever in history back then. You never went outside of school. If you want to play football, you'd wear your trainers, you'd wear whatever you're going to wear, or football boots.
So at school, for some reason, you're backing up here. Oh, yeah. You're being embarrassed. Black fucking plimpsils.
And that's what you had to wear. And they were the lame issues, apparently. They're in. Yeah.
Well, and they were the cheapest version of the van slippons, but still highly resembled them. Maybe they had a bit more of the stretchy on them, but they were almost just like the prism-print plimpsils. They were just shit. And you might be lucky enough back in the day if someone was allowed, you know, you might be able to get waves in black ashtray turf or something like that instead, but not very often.

So we're just interested in a nice little ad and well put together. Yeah, I do know sometimes, you know, you might watch a YouTube or whatever, or even on Freshly, they have the skate adverts. And I actually really like them because if I'm going to watch a fucking advert, at least I might as well be a skate advert, I enjoy. And if there's a bit of fun in there and it isn't just a we're advertising a product or whatever, it's more like just a little bit of humour or whatever, even if it's just a bit tongue-in-cheek.
It's much more enjoyable. So I like to see that. Yeah, for me, you know, it's two ways. Give us a little bit of fun with an advert or literally just give us a clip of a skateboarder of a certain brand.
You know, I mean, like Fallen, for example, they've just released a new lad on their team. I can't remember his name, I apologise, but basically it's an introduction to Fallen team and he hits this real nice flip-back 5-0 mate on this ledge that goes down to this sketchy arse bank. Right? All he does, it shows it from two angles and it says welcome to the team.
And it was like, that's how to put a fucking advert together, you know, because it makes us want to ride, you know, sketch and falling shoes. We know this old boy's name now and he's an awesome skateboard. You can see by the colour of his trick and it's gone. Rather than kind of just trying to sell us a fucking shoe.
They weren't selling us the shoe and it was quite, I kind of like that. You know, whereas what you're saying, obviously with the Foy, they could be trying to sell you the shoe, but they're selling you the comedy for his personality. That's a better approach, rather than kind of just, I mean, but then again, is it hard to sell a fucking slip-on mate? You know, so maybe you have to rely on the comedy and the celebrity behind it.
Yeah, that's it. I think you probably got to be one, you know, there are the slip-on fans. Obviously Foy is that person who's probably maybe asking for a slip-on or maybe they ask him, but there are those people that, they think can just take a bit of a batter in or, you know, they just like, they're just a bit lighter on their feet and they enjoy the way it looks or that, you know, that's how it is for them. So it's either going to be the appeal to that crowd or people who just want to support fucking Jamie himself.
So kind of the only thing they're hanging on there really with. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I appreciate that. You know, I mean, if he's one of your favourite skaters, buy his fucking shoe, definitely buy his shoe. It will get around to him.
You know, I mean, it always gets background. You think these big companies kind of don't pay attention to that. They do, you know, if a skateboarder, especially a skateboarder, you know, I mean, for a new balance. That does well.
Jamie's going to get another shoe and guess what? If he has never shoed, he's probably going to get paid a little bit more. He's going to get a decent contract or whatever. So if he inspires you and you have to, you know, if you skate and you're going to have to spend some money, they're probably not the most expensive shoes.
Yeah, they're probably a pretty good price speaker. Yeah, so if you're a foyer fan and you're into it and you're inspired, you may be just, you know, next time you need some shoes, check them out, you know, if you're into this lip-on, if you're into this little naz. Right, so let's move on mate. Let's move on.
I'm going to just do a little breakdown of the new Vulcan video. The K. Sogara video. Pretty much a tour video, classic Vulcan vibe, which you can imagine, you know, like that little surfy, little nice little neat cutaways.
You feel like you're on the road with these boys. You know what I mean? You feel nice. They always get that right.
They both always get that shit right, don't they? Where you just, you don't see loads of skating. There's obviously a little bit of kind of voice over, a little bit of piece of camera just talking about it, setting the tone everything. But you feel like you're in the van or you're on the trip with the boys.
You get them saying, well, yeah, almost giving you a bit of an itch to be like, you know, this is part of skateboarding, you know, going out. Maybe going on a trip with the homies, whatever. Kind of gives you an itch to go and go and get out there. Yeah, exactly.
And the Vulcan squad has got a load of heavy hitters. I'd say majority of the clips you've got probably more like Milton Martinez hitting some crazy shit. Simon Banerat, girls getting some crazy shit as well. We've also got Spider.
I mean Colin Prober, I see you hitting some nice things up. So, I've got the princess mate. So it gets a green light from us and Omar Hassan. Oh, nice.
Yeah, you put him in a bowl. He is the fucking OG. You put him in a bowl or any sort of fucking transition skating. He's got some street fucking skills back in the day.
In the early 2000s, when everyone was kind of like, was it trendy to be that transition skater? He was throwing it down on the fucking street. So he's got the fucking skills. But it was nice seeing him in there.
Yeah, that's sweet. So again mate, you get the score, all the listeners, I'm sure if you've watched a Vulcan video before, it's more of the vibe that they're selling to you. And there's some heavy hitters in there, really, really nice enders where they basically make the skating this almost like the side of a bridge, like a tunnel going through a bridge and it's got like a drop to bank. Real heavy hitting Milton Martinez spot.
I'm talking like two stories, that sort of big boy shit and Milton hit some shit on that. And I think Simon Banerat hits the ender on that. I think he does. But again, just really good video mate.
Nothing crazy, nothing to write home about, but enjoyable, set it down. Have a cup of tea with it and just, you know, I think it's 15 minutes of fun. So you will enjoy it. Yes.
You probably give it a solid three for a tour video substantial enough. Maybe a bit too long really mate if I'm going to be ultra critical, but three for a tour. You know, I mean, it's hard. Whoever's putting that shit together is going to be difficult to put that shit together.
So you've got to kind of tip your hat to them and, you know, for them to turn that into an actual nice little solid piece of media that we can enjoy hats off to them. So yeah, I'd probably give it a three, you know, high two, but I give it three. Awesome. Yeah.
I know. Oh, can always always been there. Put out good things throughout the past. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly. I think they will do for a long time mate. Now, let's move on. I'm going to give you the main event mate.
I'm going to go next in with the toy machine vaccine video. Okay. Yeah. I'll leave the main event to you.
So I'm going to go into this. This video is a nice solid 15 minute video. So again, nothing crazy, nothing crazy. But it's a pretty much every year now they're putting a decent amount of content out.
So the first note that I wrote down mate before anything was the word polished. This video is polished. It's still got the rawness of what you'll expect from the toy machine, but in terms of videography, in terms of animations, in terms of just every single kind of edit, every sort of cutaway, everything put together with it. It's a pro fucking video.
It's a pro video. And we're not really seeing enough of that these days. We've kind of seen a lot of videos out there, but this is a fucking legacy brand. It's been around the block and still holding it down.
And also calling it vaccine, building it into the, it's relevant. It's kind of happening to the zeitgeist of today. They know that you've got the quarantine vaccinations. It just turned in right.
You know what I'm saying? Yeah, no, definitely. I missed out there. I'm going to watch that one.
The squad in this video. It's got the whole toy machine squad, Blake Carpenter. Switch, Blit Backtail, motherfucker. He is such a good skater.
I think he had the first part in their last video. So he's a good motherfucker throughout the next stylish motherfucker. He knows what he's doing. Then you've got Jeremy Libra's, you've got Daniel Lutheran, fucking Hall of Famer right there.
Leo Romero, CJ Collins, Matt Bennett, Miles Willard, mate, Axel Christberg, Ladd called Braden Hoban. He is going to be, again, another one of these future players that you're going to see something absolutely crazy out of. He is going to be, you just mark my words, mate. I've said it first and so much, I'm sure someone else has said it before because he is something special.
But he hits a little section, mate, in his part, that is, and the note that I wrote down next to his name was John Alley. You know I'm the, I try to get John Alley into the part in dying to live. Like in terms of the flip, what he flips into. Yeah, really?
Yeah, and I'm going to say that lightly, mate. I mean, it caught me off guard because all the rest of these boys, they kind of have three to four tricks deal or a couple of tricks because you're all pro pro. This is a 15 minute video. So you can't have full parts.
This motherfucker comes in with that shit and is like, wow, he's going to be the future of Toy Machine. Yeah, that's going to be interesting to see where it happens. What comes next then? Yeah, and then they have a nice little smattering of some of the, the youngest skaters.
So they've got a couple of younger lads, a couple of younger girls in there. And it's actually really nice because the calibrate mate is really, really good. So they're not doing, and what I mean by that is we're not seeing someone jumping down a 15th set and doing like a switch over here. What I'm saying is someone's doing a flip nose manny, but it is pro standard.
Do you know what I mean? Like for example, mate, if someone sees you do a flip nose manny, it's fucking on point. I'll blow smoke up your ass, but there's no sketchiness to it. It's a legitimate trick.
So there's no like fucking held onto that. And that's what we're seeing in this. They've got some young skaters or female skaters that are trying to push the barriers down and get to the top of the game. And they're putting in some real solid clips like that.
You can't dispute that. You see someone doing a flip nose manny mate on a nice ledge. That's fucking beautiful trick. Yeah, there's no denying a skill level and some people's putting down any flip in, flip out manual, and especially on the nose.
It takes a long fucking time. Well, mate, you know me with a flip. Obviously the kick flip is my trigger. I can hit that like a shotgun.
You try and put me, you see me trying to put that into a nose manual. It's going to be a long day for me. It's not going to happen. It's a delicate trick.
It's a new one. I don't have it. I know where it fucking is. I know where it is.
I can't hold onto that. I can't retain that place in the pocket where you know is good. But it's a lot harder when you've hit that kick flip mate. The lock is on straight away.
There's no wiggle room. It's on straight away, right? It's obviously yes or no. Yeah.
And you're changing realistically. You're totally changing your kick flip. Depending on obviously the style of your kick flip. If you're a kick flip mega tweets motherfucker, then kick flip nose manny is probably going to be the trick of your choice.
But generally speaking, you know most people learn the flip flip manny first. And to do that, you can't tweak. You can barely really level out your kick flip. You've got a kick flip, put it down straight into manual.
So you kind of learn into catch and put it into like a rocket, obviously. And when you're changing that to the nose, be it a kick flip or even a front shove or a regular shove or anything, you power in that trick straight up then into a catch tweak. Which is you've got to have extra park a little bit of a catch time to force it down or a bit more hang time. And you know that's going from one style of kick flip to another.
And you know that might take a day to adjust or it might take a month. You know you might have to rewrite the whole flick. Really? As a manual aficionado mate, I'd hold you as someone that I, you know, some of the ice skate we have first hand that is fucking legit.
That manual's, I've been lucky enough to skate with quite a lot of decent manual skaters but I, you know, I'd hold you fucking top tier mate with that. What advice would you give to people? You know, say if you're doing a shove nose manual or a front shove nose manual, something like that. How the fuck do you change the energy of going?
So you're going up, obviously you've hit that. You're coming up to a ledge. But you know you're going to have to put that down energy in. The down energy is coming right.
Are you kind of putting them all in one or are you kind of separating the two? Are you saying we're going up first and then we're going to delicately put it down? Or are you already kind of, is already there? It isn't up and down.
It's one motion. What are the tips out there? What are you going to break that down with? You could do this both with a front shove and a kick clip.
Pop shove a little bit different because you're coming in backside. Even if you're goofy or regular, it doesn't really matter. You're almost going to come. You can come with a ledge straight on or a slight angle.
When you're coming up to one of these tricks, you're not necessarily, you're leaning, you're landing leaning forward, which most of the time you're going to put your nose down the trick starts. You've got to try again. So you've got to almost put your weight diagonally toe forward. That's where your energy is going to land on.
You can't necessarily do that. If you're only just getting up that ledge and you're landing flat and having to lift into a nose manny, you've either got to go too high for what you're putting in or your nose manny is not strong enough for that certain trick. If that makes sense, like backside trick, like a pop shove, generally you're going to probably do something like that, pull up the trick. But the other way around, a front shove and a kick flip, you've got to put a little bit of a boost into it if you're trying to land on your nose.
So you've got to land, you could land straight down on it, but you're going to have to put that down a little bit more delicately, which is harder popping into a trick that makes sense. So when you land it down, you want to land down forward, but diagonal, you don't have to roll that way, but that in your balance point. See, that is a fucking, that's someone who knows the score of manuals. You've just got, some of like me, obviously I can manny long enough if I concentrate, you've got to flip manual and that sort of shit.
But it's one of those things that seeing you do it, you've got to listen, you've got to watch and learn. You know what I mean? It's always good to put yourself under a learning tree and just kind of go right, what is this motherfucker doing that makes him so good at that particular thing? And it's always good to, you know what I mean?
It's always good to kind of just try and figure out what people are doing and actually, you know, just know that people are awesome at something. And if you just sit back and watch, it's probably going to make you better as well, you know, just rather than thinking you're the shit, if you think you're decent at everything, probably not the way forward. If you just want to sit back and watch someone who's decent at the, but something, you know, one of your weaknesses, it always helps you, always helps you. Oh, 100%, you know, sometimes I feel like just, you know, maybe just watching a skate video or watching something or even better watching someone in real life do a trick that necessarily you can't do, or you might not be able to do it in a certain way to achieve something that this person's doing, you know, whatever that is.
If you watch and do it again and again, you almost learn it before you even tried it because you've just seen that in a totally different place to yours or the way they're attacking that trick. And even with your, with your pop shoves, you've got a really fucking solid pop shove and the way you catch that, to be able to do that, you might not know how to, you know, I didn't catch my pop shove like yours and sometimes I need to do it in a certain way. And sometimes you forget because you're so used to doing it the same way we all do our own tricks. If you watch someone do it, you're like, ah, fuck, I'm going to be able to get my shove it just a little bit higher quicker, if I put my foot right there where you put yours.
Yeah, well, yeah, yeah, exactly, etc, etc. It's one of those things that, like you're saying, you're a different spot, different place, different technique, kind of like with my shove, it's more of like the more of if you were to use off of a ramp. Obviously, I do it, I use that technique on flat, but the use of that technique is generally how you would use it off of a ramp. So in terms of your, similar to a tray, basically, if you kind of, you know, slow mo it is the ankles doing exactly the same thing poking back that way.
It's all everything is in that generation, but just a little bit more force. It's like if you're doing a tray and just hammering it, hammering it down, but still with that flick. So the shove's always, it's just going to do it for you. Everything's going to flop over and do it for you nicely and slam the fucker down.
Or glide it out. It's up to you, but I like slamming that fucker down. We'll get back on to the Torvishi's gate, mate. So all the youngsters have real good parts.
A lad called Jay Richards who has a beautiful frontside flip, obviously, us at Cerbo, like a frontside flip, puts over a handrail mate. I mean, it's really, really nice. And he's a young lad. He's probably, you know, I'd say 13 or something, 13, 14.
And he's sitting in frontside flips over a handrail and down. Again, the Torvishi looking after the youngsters. If he just keeps his head on, he'll be a player in the future. Yeah, what a great trick to choose.
You know, you don't really see much over rail tricks these days, maybe the early zone there, but that's a calculated move. It's a classic mate. It's the all time, it's the all time kind of, as a frontside flipper, that's the trick you want to do. You know, anything, you know, you know, watch Andrew Reynolds in the end, the birdhouse video back in the day.
