Capt. Elmer “Royce” Williams is a retired U.S. Navy aviator and Medal of Honor recipient.On Nov. 18, 1952, flying an F9F-5 Panther from USS Oriskany, Lt. Williams fought a legendary 35-minute solo dogfight against seven Soviet MiG-15s. He shot down four, returned with his plane riddled by 263 holes, and protected Task Force 77. The full story stayed classified for decades. Originally awarded the Silver Star, his decoration was upgraded to the Navy Cross (2023) and the Medal of Honor (Feb. 24, 2026, at age 100).
