67 | James "Buster" Douglas

from The Odd Podcast with Joe Parisi

On February 11, 1990, James "Buster" Douglas climbed into a boxing ring in Tokyo, Japan to face Mike Tyson.  Buster's mother had suddenly died just days prior.  The fight was nearly cancelled.  Casino's wouldn't even take bets on the fight because the odds so drastically favored Tyson.  Buster showed up, shocked the world and won in what would become one of the biggest upsets in sports history.   The weeks and months that followed were crazy. Buster became a pop culture icon. But then it all stopped.  Buster lost quickly in his next fight and immediately announced his retirement from the sport.  He dropped off the map, sunk into a deep depression, ended up in a diabetic coma and almost died. He came back yet again, turning his life around and eventually returning to professional fighting.   We talk with Buster, discuss his rise, fall and rise again along with the video game he was featured in, his appearance on WWF wrestling and more!
