67. Nighttime fears in children w/ Dr Krystal Lewis, Child & Adolescent Psychologist
from Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson · host Dr Jodi Richardson
Nightime fears in children affect the whole family. While they’re developmental to a point, so many children, and even teens, feel anxious and frightened in bed alone and will do all they can to avoid that happening. Fears of intruders, monsters, shadows or something bad happening to their parent/s are just some of the reasons underlying the anxiety that shows up at bedtime. In this episode child and adolescent psychologist Dr Krystal Lewis helps parents understand nighttime fears, signs to look out for and importantly, what parents can do to support their children to transition to sleeping alone and settling into bed peacefully at night.Twitter: Dr Krystal LewisLinkedIn: Dr Krystal LewisAnxiety & Depression Association America: Dr Krystal Lewiscdc.govNational Institute Mental Health (USA)Dr Krystal Lewis’ book recommendationsUncle Lightfoot, Flip that Switch: Overcoming Fear of the Dark - Mary Coffman What to do when you dread your bed: A kids guide to overcoming problems with sleep- Dawn Huebner Outsmarting Worry: An Older Kids Guide to Managing Stress and Anxiety- Dawn HuebnerThanks for listening to this episode of “Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson.”How you can help: If you enjoyed this episode, or gained some useful insight from it, please share it with a friend or family member.
