#670 The Foundation of Power: Deciphering the Kinematic Sequence & Ground Reaction Forces (Part 1)
from Golf 247.eu: The Global Platform for Innovative Technologies and Teaching Concepts. · host Golf247.eu
The golf swing is an open kinetic chain, where the feet interact with the ground to create energy that is ultimately transferred to the clubhead. Maximum clubhead speed is not produced by muscular strength alone but by the efficient transfer of energy through the kinetic chain. The Kinematic Sequence describes how the pelvis, thorax, arms, and club accelerate and decelerate in a precise order. Elite golfers consistently transfer energy from the Pelvis → Thorax → Arms → Club, while the pelvis slows before impact, allowing momentum to be passed efficiently to the next segment. Amateur golfers often release the arms too early, reducing speed and consistency.Ground Reaction Forces (GRF) are the foundation of this movement. Force plates measure Vertical (Fz), Medial-Lateral (Fx), and Anterior-Posterior (Fy) forces. These forces generate rotational torque and influence clubhead speed, balance, and stability. Research also shows that the timing of GRF changes depending on club selection.During the backswing, golfers create X-Factor separation, storing elastic energy through the hips, trunk, and shoulders. The downswing begins from the ground up as the lead leg initiates pelvis rotation, followed by the thorax, arms, and finally the club. One of the biggest mistakes is relying primarily on the arms. A full-body swing, driven by the legs, hips, trunk, and shoulders, produces significantly greater clubhead speed, momentum, and consistency while reducing unnecessary stress on the body.Modern technologies such as 3D motion analysis and force plates provide valuable biomechanical insights that improve performance, efficiency, and injury prevention.Understanding the relationship between Kinematics and Ground Reaction Forces is the key to developing a faster, more consistent, and more efficient golf swing. If you enjoyed this video, subscribe to our channel and follow our work.
