It can be very challenging to parent children with ADHD. In this week's episode of the Soaring Child podcast, Child and Family Therapist Ashley Gobeil joins the show to answer some of the most common questions she gets asked by parents of children with ADHD.    Questions such as… 1. How can I get my child to do X or stop doing Y? 2. How can I explain dietary changes to my child?  3. What are some ways to improve routines in the home? 4. How can parents deal with meltdowns/tantrums?    Tune in to hear her answers to these frequently asked questions!    Key Takeaways: [2:53] Question 1 - How do I get my child to do X or stop doing Y? [9:08] The short-term versus long term goals of parenting [10:47] Question 2 - How do you explain dietary changes to a child? [19:31] Question 3 - What are some ways to improve routines in the home? [28:30] Question 4 - How can parents deal with meltdowns/tantrums?   Memorable Moments: "If these kids could do well, they would. If they can, they will." "Look at the behavior differently." "For kids specifically with ADHD, we know their nervous system is really hyper-sensitive." "Our child often can't control what they're doing." "The aim of that is to simply leave your child with the experience of feeling seen, heard, soothed, validated, and just acknowledged for all parts of themselves." "We are actually the container for our child's nervous system." "When our mindset shifts, that's going to guide our actions, and it's going to guide how we approach it." "Children learn about their experience of the world through our experience of what we think their experience of the world is." "Play is one way that children actually soothe their nervous system." "If we can ground ourselves in compassion and empathy, that's going to drive how we respond or react in those meltdowns." "If you feel like you're running out of resource, it's okay to take a break." "Be your child's external regulator. When they can't regulate themselves, we know from neuroscience, they need to borrow your nervous system in that moment. So if you can stay present, they're going to use your breath, your heart rate, your tone of voice to calm themselves. And that's going to help them feel safe and that's going to decrease the fight or flight."   How to Connect with Ashley Gobeil Website: https://info.adhdthriveinstitute.com/parentingadhd    Dana Kay Resources: Website: https://adhdthriveinstitute.com/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ADHDThriveInstitute/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adhdthriveinstitute/  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ADHDThriveInstitute  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/adhd-thrive-institute/mycompany/  Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.ph/adhdthriveinstitute/  Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@adhd_thriveinstitute    International Best Selling Book, Thriving with ADHD – https://adhdthriveinstitute.com/book/  Free Reduce ADHD Symptoms Naturally Masterclass – https://bit.ly/3GAbFQl   ADHD Parenting Course – https://info.adhdthriveinstitute.com/parentingadhd ADHD Thrive Method 4 Kids Program – https://adhdthriveinstitute.com/packages/
