#68 - Joe Laude - Operation Allies Refuge Foundation and How They Are Helping Veterans Heal From Moral Injury

Joe Laude is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served for close to five years with in the Infantry attaining the rank of Sergeant before ending his active service. He served with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines at Hamid Karzai International Airport in support of Operation Allies Refuge during the evacuation of Kabul in August 2021.Joe is the founder and Executive Director of the Operation Allies Refuge Foundation (OAR Foundation), a veteran-led nonprofit. He is an advocate for addressing moral injury among veterans, particularly those involved in the Afghanistan withdrawal, and has spoken publicly about his experiences during the evacuation.OAR Foundation is a U.S. veteran-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Richmond, Virginia that was established around 2022, focused on supporting veterans affected by moral injury, including psychological and emotional wounds from experiences that conflict with deeply held moral or ethical beliefs, especially those tied to the 2021 Kabul evacuation.OAR's Main Mission is to provide support and advocacy through research, treatment, community-building, and humanitarian initiatives.The organization emphasizes that healing often comes through continued service, community, and addressing isolation after military experiences.
