68. The Healing Power of Telling Your Story with Jose Lugo

from Café with Monica · host Monica Denais

68. The Healing Power of Telling Your Story with Jose Lugo  Telling your story can be the most powerful medicine on earth.  I'm serious scientifically you turn off the body's stress responses and flip off toxic stress hormones. Each of us has a constantly unfolding narrative, a hero in a novel no one else can write. And yet so many of us leave our stories untold when this happens, we wind up feeling lonely, like no one is dealing with what we are dealing with, out of touch with our life's purpose, and feeling like something is out of alignment.  Today's guest Jose Lugo shows an example of the healing power of telling your story and the power of vulnerability. This episode is a special one for me because I resonated with Jose's story because many of the men I grew up with had similar stories that were left untold. I am excited to hold space for Jose today as he shares the struggles he faced with addiction, family conflict, and finding purpose.  This episode is for all the men out there whose stories were never told; may we change the narrative on men's mental health.   More about the guest: Jose Lugo is an ex-LA gang member who has found the value in his own story. He currently travels the U.S. listening to and sharing people's stories as the founder of We Are All One Story. Jose is finishing his memoir, Love, Faith and Violence: A True Song and Story, set to release this year.   Guest Contact: Follow We Are One Story on Instagram, check out their website here.
